I have a 1998 Hitachi ex30 - 2 with a Kubota 4 cylinder v1505. The machine was running flawlessly up until I went out to start it the other day and it is now pouring black smoke and will not start. It will sputter and act like it wants to start. All filters are new this season. Air filter is fresh. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Is there any reason the load might be too high? A hydraulic valve stuck or some such?

That is a possibility. It also seems to not be turning over as smooth with the starter so that could make sense

I was able to get the machine started and it idled very rough, continued to pour black smoke, and had no respond to the throttle lever. I shut it down after 30 seconds of idle.

Is there a way to disengage the hydraulic pump on that machine?

Check that the air filter is properly installed and there is no blockage anywhere in the supply to the intake manifold. It sure sounds like lack of air.

U might have blown a tip on an injector..
IF it was black smoking at cranking, you wont have to start it to find out..
Just loosen a steel injector line AT THE INJECTOR 1x1 & watch the smoke when u crank it..
It would be faster if it was started tho..
IF no change, tighten the line & move to the next 1..
Just BE SURE to loosen the line>> AT THE INJECTOR.. NOT AT THE PUMP..
Good luck & let us know..

My B2410 was acting like that. It had sucked a mouse into the air filter.
