Hello, we have a 2015 or 2016 1140 RTV and it has suddenly developed a major problem. About 450 hours on the machine overall and never abused. The engine sounds a bit rough compared to how it normally sounds. No power especially if on even a slight incline. Won't shut off via the key. And sometimes excessive black exhaust.

I checked the easy stuff like air filter and spark arrestor but nothing wrong there. The machine was actually serviced just 4 hours ago so all filters and fluids were replaced and the filters all look new so I believe the tech actually did the work. I can see a steady stream of fuel returning to the tank when the engine is running. Engine starts right up every time without hesitation.

Yesterday I was letting it idle after cleaning a small amount of soot from the spark arrestor and after a minute or two black smoke started to spew from the exhaust and turning the key would not shut off the engine so I had to stall it out by fully depressing the accelerator pedal.

I've done some internet sleuthing but come up empty-handed so far. My first inclination is to think there is an electrical problem with the shutoff solenoid circuit but that wouldn't seem to explain the loss of power/rough engine--unless the solenoid wasn't opening fully, maybe? The symptoms seem more like an injector or IP issue but most of my diesel experience is limited to my personal vehicle which is an old N/A 7.3 Navistar. Any tips, tricks, or diagnostic help would be appreciated as our local tractor service is still cleaning up from the floods we had out here in CA.

Following in case this happens to mine. It does sound like a fuel problem, as in too much.

Dis anyone had any luck with the PSB? it is 2024 would Kubota still honors it?
The PSB clearly states on page 2 that it is eligible for 5 years from the retail date.
I replaced one on an RTV-X1120 about 2 months ago.

Thank you, saw that.. but was hoping something could have changed…

how hard is to change the pump? Some thing someone can do or it has to go to the dealer for specific timing adjustments or anything like that? removing the pump don’t seem too complicated…also any specific troubleshooting to rule out another cause to the problem before deep diving in to R&R of the pump?

If your unit meets the PSB criteria, take it to the dealer. They are not going to give you a pump for you to install.

If you replace the pump on your own, wash the engine completely. Remove the 3 injection lines, pinch off, and remove the fuel hoses, the throttle cable, the intake manifold, and the fuel shut-off solenoid. Remove the speed control plate to remove the start spring and align the pin in the groove. (See WSM pics below)

Remove the 2 nuts and 2 bolts that hold down the injection pump evenly. The pump will now lift off, Inspect the mounting surface of the pump to ensure none of the shims have stuck to it. If any have, remove them and reinstall them onto the block.

Thanks for the info, very good! Mine is a 2016 so 5 years have passed…going to trouble shut a little more to rule out the injectors(but I think the problem is the pump) and then I’ll just order a pump and replace.

If it smokes very heavy, has a miss, and will not shut off with the key switch, its the pump.

Thank you all for your replies, before I venture on and buy a new pump, has anyone heard of a fix (for the pump) for this particular problem where the pump can be repaired as opposed to buying a new one???

If I understand the issue, which I probably don't, and if the new pump was coming out of my pocket, I'd try to weld that little ball back on, or make a little weld bead work. What do you have to lose except a little time? (I'm retired, though)

That’s what I was thinking and wondering anyone has tried welding the ball…probably too small…
