The best way to fix a cracked block is to heliarc it with stainless rod, it will last longer than you will. I do it all the time. The only permanent way to go.

Ok, I picked up Rotella T heavy duty diesel engine oil 15W-40 (which was the only one they had) I will change the oil and filter today and let you wonderful guys know how it worked later. Thanks to all, Frank

Thanks kuboman, I use Penzoil 10w30 for the most part. I mowed for 2 hours yesterday and zero problems (but still smoking from breather) ran like a clock though.

Thanks North Idaho Wolfman, that's what the parts guy at the Kubota dealer said. In the meantime, I will search for new/almost new engine. I would like to get it rebuilt, but out here I don't know any qualified rebuilders. I will just run it until it quits, then swap engines. Thanks, Frank
