    Durn Fern, TLDR

I talked to one of the guys while his partner was grappling. They're out of NW Arkansas; he said they've been coast to coast plus PR?, I think. Wish I'd asked him how they got their equipment across the water. He said when he's home, he has a tree trimming/firewood business. I think we've...

Tue 2/10 Picked up the new front tires and put them on. Replaced a couple of saw chains and got to work. Since the power crew did their thing, I was able to get my primary drive to the shed cleared. The power line corners at my shed and I started clearing down the other span. Until I noticed how...

Electric Vehicles. Can anyone make this make sense?

Again, the heater is very efficient but the juice in the battery was produced at maybe 40% of the prime energy, assuming conventional power generation. Whereas my conventional vehicle is heated with free heat which would otherwise be wasted via the radiator.

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Just picked up Katy's new slippers. 10.5 as per the manual vs 8.5's that she had when I bought her. Time to get them on and back to work.

    Buying advice and pricing :)

+1 And as long as you don't over pay or encounter major repair, you can get most of your money back when you're through with it. My ex-BIL bought a dozer to get his land like he wanted it, kept it a year or so, and sold it for what he paid for it. He probably didn't put many hours on it, but had...

Mon 2/9 After stops at dealer, tire shop #2 and tire shop #3 I have a serviceable tire and two new ones on the way. And it only took half the morning. Sis and I spent the rest of the day clearing and stacking behind the poco crew. And some at the neighbor's to clear a tree off her fence. Oh...

Sun 2/8 There's a tire shop in town that opens at 10 am on Sunday. They broke down the tire and discovered it had a tube. So I went tube shopping. Found a 15" tube, but it had a long stem which I figured I'd rip off in short order. So I bought a tube repair kit and enlisted my sister's aid to...

The man who owns a 'hoe. All others watch in fascination and admiration.

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

I don't want to get too high on my horse, but that archaic system fostered the 'greatest country in the world'. Including saving the world from the bad guys. OK, we had a little help. LOL.

    A rant

This has nothing to do with the original post except that it's a rant. With the recent storm damage, two phone wires were sagging over the road. Someone had pulled them to the side, but I managed to snag one with my antenna the second time. Yesterday, there was an AT&T truck in the road, fixing...

    SSQA landscape rake?

You could probably adapt a rake to a SSQA plate. I think it would require more attention in use than a 3pt because of the additional weight of the loader arms. I think you'd need to adjust the bucket height as you go over undulations. I've found my clam-shell grapple to be useful for raking...

Sat 2/7 Got a late start, debris truck blocked the road a little while. I had planned a trip to HD and Wally for spare chains and replacement groceries. Couldn't find my jacket, did I leave it at Wendy's? Sis asked if she could ride, she had towels to swap at the animal shelter. So that was most...

Fri 2/6 Tried to help old lady across the road get her service mast which was bent horizontal, so when the powerline is fixed she'll be ready. 'No good deed goes unpunished' fits here. Bottom line, it's done, cost her $425, 'nuff said. Sister and I took her to Wendy's (her choice) for lunch. I...

    Differential lock broken pins?

I would call first. I have encountered the '7 day' line, then not available after I placed an order. I think it was a hose. I'm not sure if it was a Kubota problem or the dealer.

    What's cookin' boys?

Had a Wendy burger for lunch. To compensate, it was high of 68F and sunny. Perfect day for outdoor work.

Electric Vehicles. Can anyone make this make sense?

I'd question that, my recollection is motor efficiency of 98-99% at near-full load, pump efficiency maybe 80%. Assuming hydraulic turbine/motor and generator efficiencies roughly equal to pump and motor efficiencies, you get a round-trip efficiency of ~65%. With optimum design and advances in...

Electric Vehicles. Can anyone make this make sense?

Think of it as buying at off-peak rate and selling at on-peak rate, minus the cost of the energy lost due to inefficiency.

I know a lot of you don't want to read all this, so I'm starting a separate thread to continue a post in a different thread. Background: winter storm Fern hit north Ms and mid Tn, beginning Sat, Jan 24. A band of ice from freezing rain caused lots of power outage starting late Sat night/early...

I think @JasonW meant transmission drive PTO. It's a good point, an independent PTO is a real benefit for mowing. Consider, you engage the blades on your mowers before starting to move. Can't do that with trans drive. Long term, you'll be happier with HST and independent PTO of some variety...
