Yes varsol is a paint thinner, for house paint , not laquer thinner or enamel reducers which are much harsher and extremely explosive. Varsol is also called mineral spirits.:D

Well I did a bit today. So far the repair on the hood is going well. I cut off about 2 inches at the very front of the hood and I cut out the top of the hood. The piece of sheet metal behind the hood is what I'm using to build the top. 12mm should do the trick.
