I think I would try the grease. A machine shop would use up a lot of that 500, and you would still have a old box.

To me replacing the battery before it dies, is no different than changing a fuel filter before it is plugged. I also take in my worst spare battery for a core. Not all batteries are created equal, so I would look into what type you want, before replacing your current one.

For fenders I think I would look at either metal or plastic barrels with the curvature you need as a starting point, and metal conduit for the frame work, they just need to hold the weight of the fender. Lots of snow clearing tractors and loaders have them. Kubota even makes them for the larger...
