When did it Start for you, Driving Tractors?

Like yourself, I grew up with it. It was always Masseys at my uncles place. I used to get the boring jobs too. Rolling pastures in spring, turning hay in summer, later tramping the silage pit. Scraping yards that were never designed for tractors soon teaches the use of the side brakes. Then got...

    New tractor break-in advice, please

Just to throw the cat among the pigeons: the tutor on the mechanic module of my training, a few years ago now, told us that the instruction from JCB at the time was to drive a new machine to a secluded part of the site and leave it there at WOT for the entire working day keeping an odd eye on...

Outdoors here as well. Will be doing a bit of a reshuffle when the lambs go. Should be able to squeeze it in somewhere for the winter.

We've never had it so good, weather that is

I am well aware that other places are hotter. You guys are equipped for that. We are used to our temperate climate and our infrastructure reflects that. We can't cope with heavy rain, anything over an inch of snow closes down the country, high temperatures melt our roads, dry spells shows how...

    Idle or Restart

I was told when training that it was bad to let any diesel idle. It can cause carbon to build up in, for example, the manifold thereby sucking power out of the engine. Nothing a WOT run under load won't fix. On the other hand, if you are out on your own and hard to reach, never shut it down in...

We've never had it so good, weather that is

We are currently going through the hottest weather since 1976. We are currently hovering around 90F and no rain for the past 5/6 weeks except for 1 day and nothing major forecast Sales of factor 50 and ice-cream are gone through the roof. They say we need 3.5" of rain to restore the moisture...

How do I remind myself to take it out of 4WD?

I am trying to figure out how to attach a door light switch to the tractor so that when you pull up the lever it will give a light somewhere on the dash. I do quite a bit of road travel between jobs which are usually done in 4 wheel drive.
