MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

Quick update. The dealership returned my tractor on Wednesday. Everything covered by warranty as promised. Parts delivery was delayed, par for the course these days. I asked for the damaged parts - they seemed easily fixable for spares - but since the warranty covered the work Kubota wanted...

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

Great news today. Kubota approved the warranty claim and parts are on order. ETA on the parts is later this week (too late for the Biggest Snowfall of the Year), so I should have it back first of next week. Joy is restored in Mudville. 🥳

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

The takeaways for me after 90ish comments are: there are aspects of the 3pt design intended to prevent the lift arms from sliding off the rock shaft, but it can happen, even with the stabilizer bars attached and correctly adjusted, it's pretty rare, but there are reports of it happening to...

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

I'm a total novice. I admitted that up front. I also admitted to leaving the kickstand down, which I wouldn't have done if I was trying to hide operator mistakes. Sure, I would love to have the warranty cover it, but in the grand scheme of things it's not very important. Much more...

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

That was certainly the case with use of my rear blade in this situation. Rocks and hidden tree stumps. I generally don't go crazy reversing with the blade, but I was using a lot of effort dragging it in forward.

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

Oh, interesting. When you said you've previously seen it happen a few times on left arms, I was working toward the theory that it was due to the different type of retainer on that side. But from this comment, now I'm questioning that.

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

My right lift arm connection doesn't have this piece.

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

Nope. Stabilizers were connected when it was delivered by the dealership last Sept and never modified in any way. They were inspected after the damage and nothing unusual noted.

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

But isn't the thing that makes it go into relief the control rod? Is it intended to go into relief at the high point even if the control rod is adjusted properly?

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

The right arm has a different design to keep it attached. It seems like the control rod link isn't strong enough to withstand this force on the left arm.

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

Good info. Usually if I push backward with the blade it's straight, but I have pushed it with an angle a few times. Thinking back about my earlier complaints to the dealer about slow bucket movement, and their suggestion to lower the 3pt from its high position to alleviate it, makes me think...

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

Nope. But since they didn't even notice the obvious damage on the rock shaft, even though they saw the damaged splines on the lift arm, I'm not sure they've given it a whole lot of thought.

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

The dealer's first response today was that they have to make the repairs and then submit the warranty claim for approval after. I said if it's not going to be covered, I'll probably take it back and make the repairs myself. To which they responded, in that case they can submit for...

OK to let bucket slam down to clear stuck snow in bucket?

But sometimes it's worth it? ;)

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

Good idea. I'll make a note to ask the dealer whether they looked inside in assessing the situation. Thanks!

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

This is exactly the route I'm going. Dealer picked it up today, so we'll see what they say tomorrow.

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

A knowledgeable friend looked at the 3pt and said the stabilizer bars are adjusted correctly. And no bending or other signs of excessive force apparent on them. He's had to straighten or weld stabilizer bars plenty of times and can't understand why the lift arm would get forced laterally off...

MX5400 hydraulic arm shaft and control rod damage

That would be aggravating, since they sold it to me at initial purchase.
