2007 L3400 cruise control shaft seal replacement

Has anyone replaced the left-hand side cruise control/foot pedal seal on an HST transmission. Mine is slowly dripping oil and I’m getting conflicting information on how to replace it. It looks like the linkage arm is welded to the shaft and there’s a cotter pin right next to the casting on both the right and left side. I think the cotter pins are there to keep the shaft centered in the transmission. When looking at a parts diagram, the shaft appears to go completely through the transmission and I would have two remove the whole piece in order to replace the seal. Any help would be appreciated.

Your analysis is correct; you do have to remove the shaft completely to replace the LH seal.

Thank you for the answer and thanks for the picture! Is there anythingI should try to fix the seal before biting the bullet and pulling the shaft? Does a shaft support any internal parts or does it just go straight through the casing?

Nope no magic non-replacement fix.
No it doesn't connect to anything internally.
Yank it out and replace both seals.
Note: If the shaft has excessive wear on it, you might need to replace it to get it to seal properly.
