L3560 FEL drift and shop HID to LED conversion

I am going in through the trap door and J noticed the one light is right there, j will know what is what tomorrow.

I think I might have steered you wrong, you can get LED HID lamps that will screw into those fixtures, but you would need to bypass the ballast in the fixture.

Just a couple examples:

I know now that the new bulbs are not the issue…the problem lies with the capacitor or the ballast.

Well that a good thing.
Kill the power and open the fixture up and take pics.
It might be fairly simple to bypass the ballast and put in LED's.

That is 240v.
Pretty stupid for them to have run all the wires in red, makes it really tough to keep everything straight.
All the red wires are HOT 120V on each lead and a combination of 2 is 240V.
Good thing is you won't need to change anything in the relay box to make it work.

Good find on the HID replacements. I'd warn OP to confirm the socket and bulb size. The description from 1000bulbs is medium base and the Home Depot is mogul base, which is what I've seen in my extremely limited experience with HIDs. There is a mogul to medium adapter available if necessary. And they all seem to accept 110-277v power.

Also, maybe this was your point, some use the ballast and some require bypassing it. Personally, I'd bypass it - I don't like leaving unnecessary components in, just more potential failure points.

What is the one white wire (not bell wire) in the lower left of the box for? It looks like it was part of the red wire pull but just dies in the box. Does it go anywhere?

That's a neutral for the transformer.
