I had no alternative the grass was just way to high. What I felt bad about was the white clover is in full bloom, and in over an acker and a half not one honey bee, not one. Anybody that has played with bees know those blossoms should be covered with workers and walked/ hobbled around, looking and watching for the last couple days, and not one bee. The ways we are destroying our life is astounding, too many things to kill off things we dont like but they kill off other things we need

If it makes you feel better, I saw plenty of bees while mowing today. I set the deck at max height so it doesn’t take all the blossoms off.

@skeets, depending on what blooming in your area bees could be up in the trees if you have trees blooming. (Ie basswood or tulip trees or something that have a nectar the bees like…if they like it better than clover they might go to their favorites first.

One of the reasons I planted 30 acres in native forbes after a sizable investment in money and time, then tilled in a 1/4 acre of useless grass in my backyard and planted native species that benefit not only honey bees, which are not a native species, and many many native bees including bumble bees.

A lot of folks are under the mistaken impression it is only the Apis mellifera (western honey bee) that pollinates our crops when in reality estimates are 30 to 50% of crops are pollinated by native bee species.

I would hope more people make the choice to remove some of that lush green grass stretching for acres , requiring many mowings , watering, fertilizers and plant areas, small , medium or large in native plant species that support both native and non native(honey bees).

Most of my yard is clover. I let it grow for the bees. We also just had new field lines installed and once the rye gets established, I’ll be clovering all of this too. June 6 vs. today.

I seeded the bare spots and watered again.

Bees could be working another plant right now. Leave a strip or two and see if bees show up later. I do agree that insecticides are overused and indiscriminately used.

I have seen many more bees this year than in previous years. Mainly honey bees from a bee keeper that lives about 1/2 mile from us. I attribute that to the fact that I stopped mowing the back field. My wife's garden benefits from that and I get to spend less time mowing. Win for me and win for my wife!

What I felt bad about…. was the twin-fawns I chopped-up while mowing.

Mom had laid them down in high grass and told them Not to Move.

It’ll be a long while before I get over this.

I mowed today while taking a nap 🥱.

I'm getting used to this little robot. Never complains, never needs fuel, isn't bothered by ticks and bugs 😃.

N.Y,
What brand is it and how many acres does it cut?
It's a Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD. It will only allow me to map 1.25 acres at a time so I just use it around the house. I have done about 3 acres by deleting old maps and mapping new areas but that's a pain. Supposed to be cloud storage for maps comming this fall so they don't need to be deleted but for now it's rated at 1.25 acres and handles that great. Uses 4g and satellites for precision location within a couple centimeters that amazes me. Has AI vision that makes it mow around and avoid obstacles. Really amazing little robot that does a pretty good job. The app is a little buggy and lagging sometimes but once mapped it's on its own unless you want to watch the cameras while it mows on the app. I think there's some bigger ones coming right around the corner. 20260530_130443.jpg

How does it avoid kids and animals?

360 degree lidar and 2 cameras using AI vision watching about 200 feet all around it. Has a very powerful AI chip. Knows what kids, toys, animals look like. It mows around them if stationary and stops along with turning off blades if they move to wait for them to pass. It's scary smart for a mowing robot mower. It also has sensors should someone try to pick it up. Also talks.

N.Y,
That looks like it would work well on a putting green
No, it's not a super precision cut with the tires in front of the mower blades and the grass ejects out the rear center. Also just mows straight patterns that you can vary like a zero turn. Plus mine is for 2 to 4 inch cut height that auto adjusts to the dimension you want. They do make this in a 1 to about 2.5 inch cut model also. There are some that collect the clippings and have front mounted mowers for applications like that. It's Just a useful toy to make life easier and reduce my fossil fuel usage seeing how I have excess solar.

I wonder how it would work on the mine field I call a yard?
We call our front yard a minefield also. That's because of all the dog shxx out there and it did a good job of spreading it 😯. Had to turn off the AI detection because that made it mow around the piles first try.

I only have a few spots of clover in my lawn. I'll try to let it go to seed. This fall I might try to get more of it seeded.
