actually, color is most definitely used today as a quick identifier for types of coolant.I am afraid you cannot use the colour of a coolant any more for identification. Those times are long gone.
that's not to say everything yellow is interchangeable with everything yellow. however, engine manufacturers that recommend a specific type that is typically yellow, MOST compatible types will also be yellow.
at the end of a 37yr career from heavy junk mechanic to managing a fleet of 9600 pieces of equipment, 27 maintenance and repair facilities and hundreds of personnel, I can assure you that color is still a viable quick aid to identifying antifreeze and helps prevent or at least minimizes non-compatible mixups.
