Did some tractoring today.

I'm digging out footers for some compost bins. By hand. But at least I don't have to move the dirt by hand.

I use Garlon 4, with a surfactant and dye. Cut stump treatment within minutes of cutting, and foliar treatment with the same mix for the small seedlings.
Thanks - that is what I thought. The reason I asked is because we have a Glossy Buckthorn problem where a beaver pond used to be but drained when the dam broke about 15 years ago. I have been doing cut and squirt since then with 40% Glyphosate to no avail. A losing battle, but here in VT land owners cannot legally use Garlon w/o state certification. The brook thru this area drains directly into a public water supply about a mile away. So I am careful.

Did some food plot work. Using a 2025 tractor and a disc that's probably 65 years old. Still working good. 1000003925.jpg

This weekend I mowed the pasture for the first time this season.

Then I moved a pile of dirt from last year and created a new pile. 20260531_113602.jpg
I use extra caution mowing this time of year. Pretty sure this little was one just born 5/31.

As I was servicing the tractor and rotatory mower on Saturday preparing for a day of mowing, I noticed that the the support for the wheel on the mower was cracking at the weld. It has fallen off before and been welded back on. That repair has started to crack again and I was showing the wife that I guess it is time to get a new mower and look at a heavier duty one. I admitted that I was rough on the mower, but it has done well for 8 years cleaning up the farm. She looked at it, took a picture and said ok.

I thought that meant I was getting the greenlight to start mower shopping, I was wrong.

I come home from work yesterday and she said the A-frame support will be here next week. I was confused, wasn't sure what she was talking about. She said she had looked at a new mower cost, then went to Messicks website, "did you know that they have diagrams of all the parts you could need?". She went on to explain she found the part, drove up to our local Kubota dealer and talk to Linda's son (her friend's son works the part department) and he made sure she had figured out the correct part for our mower and she ordered it. The part will be here in a week and no shipping since they are bringing it in on their regular delivery. She went on to explain all she has to do is take a picture and they can help her find the part and I won't have to buy new equipment, we can save money just repairing it.

Well, I had to admit I was proud of her for being helpful and jumping into trying to keep things going. At the sametime I was a little disappointed because I was looking forward to buying the new mower.

Although, she pointed out that with the money we saved, we can put that in our excavator fund. So, the disappointment quickly disappeared.

Today I got my my liquid fertilizer system working for dosing fertilizer on my new Christmas tree seedlings. All 12 volt with a diaphragm pump, 25 gallon tank, and operates with a push button switch. Unit can be calibrated in ounces/shot. I can do 1000 trees in less than than 3 hours. If you deal with trees let me know I will post pics later this weekend. The system will also be used for foliar feeding. The BX and my B2401 are perfect units for Christmas trees. Let me know if you have questions.

Ordered an oil filter, fuel filter, and concentrated Kubota coolant from messicks. Dealership is 40 mins away so the 20 dollar shipping ends up being less than what I spend in time and gas getting there.

I have never done coolant in anything so figured I’d just go with oem. I think it’s still cheaper since I could only find premixed 50/50 around my area for the same price. I would need more than one container of the premixed as well. The fuel filter seems expensive to me, so I’m all ears if someone has a different recommendation, another thing I’ve never bought so I have no idea.

Also have a pickup order in for T6 10w-30 (on sale too!!) for the tractor and some 0w-20 for my vehicle from the auto parts store. Planning to knock both oil changes and coolant flush on the tractor this weekend. I’ll have to run to one of the grocery stores to pick up some distilled water as well.

Been just over two years since last oil change, with 50 more hours since. After this change I’ll be aiming for yearly oil changes on the tractor.

I've called around and it doesnt seem like any of the auto parts stores take it. I just assumed they did. Very frustrating as I just called 4 different auto parts store brands and noone takes it. And the one place that used to closed. I know on household hazardous waste day they take used coolant/antifreeze so I may just have to collect it in used oil jugs and do it then, but they make you reserve weeks in advance and its this weekend so I doubt I can get a spot.

There is also a recycling place that charges 1.50 a gallon to recycle it. Im confused though because this is how they have it formatted.

I thought antifreeze is coolant? I'm confused. When I look online the terms are used interchangeably.
