Some more of our local wildlife. Safely relocated from the kitchen outside into the garden. It's a huntsman, about 4" across. They hurt if they bite but not venomous.

Went sailing the other day off Santa Cruz. This is the end of the pier being repaired. several hundred feet fell off, with a restaurant on it, last year and went south, literally. They are stabilizing the remain part.

Driving across the dam at our pond today to refresh the wood chips on a seating area, I noticed this weird looking sort of turtlish thing about 20’ offshore. Stopped to check it out. Looked like a snapping turtle with a very long tail wrestling or mating with another turtle being held upside down underwater by the top turtle.

My 30 year old son watched the video (link below) and said if we have a bunch of little turtles in the next couple months, they were mating. If we’re missing a big turtle next week, they were fighting. He’s a really smart guy.

Took this a couple days ago skiing at Big Sky. We skied down the backside of that peak up there. Pucker factor was 10+…but at 67 I did well. My son and niece were with us and they looked better than me…

Not such a friendly little critter. Normally I'm happy for spiders to go on their way, but these Redbacks get squashed.

Almost always find them here under sheets of iron, this one was under a steel trailer loading ramp.

One of two DeKay's brown snakes found today while cleaning up an area of the yard. They're very small, harmless little guys. This one is full grown. When the chickens get lucky enough to find one of these they slurp them down like a piece of spaghetti.

Such a great time of year here in Montana. Grass is green and hummingbirds are showing up.

Turning over a dirt pile today with the BX and this Grey Catbird pops in to grab some grubs. Never recall seeing one in my 68 years. Didn't seem at all concerned about me or the tractor, just hungry I guess.

I was transferring files to long-term backup when I came across this sequence I shot back in October 2024.
I do volunteer sports photography at the high school where my daughter graduated and I am pretty sure this will be the coolest football reception I ever capture. Clearly a young man who doesn't have to be coached on not giving up on the play!

The full sequence of photos is saved as a video in this Smugmug photo link, the reception portion of this TD play went about 10 yards from the point he first made finger contact with the ball before he wrapped up the reception and ran for the score. I was running down the sidelines to keep a good angle on the play as he was juggling the ball.

This one isn't a photo but a video I took yesterday morning when I first walked outside. I don't think I had ever heard so many birds being so talkative all at once at our place. I couldn't tell you what all the bird sounds are, but thought it sounded pretty cool.

This only lasted a few minutes and then it was back to normal.

I have spent a fortune on rubber mulch nuggets this week but the future savings and reduced work is going to be worth it. And I had a little helper this morning who hung around for a photo and landed on my arms a few times while I was photographing him.
