Ha thank you for the detailed information about this forum. I am getting worried that I may have missed somebody or that I didn’t respond to somebody and I don’t want anybody to think I am rude or anything. Everybody has been so kind and helpful!

A blade on a deck should not come loose. That's why we asked to check the washers, shims etc. and to use the correct tightening torque.

It would be a good idea to check the other blades too.

Yes, actually I had somebody check it and the whole assembly is loose. And it will not tighten up. A new spindle has been ordered and hopefully that will fix it.
However, I did remember something and please don’t laugh… I crashed into a crêpe myrtle with the deck about a week ago, could that have damaged that? It was on the same side also.

I run right over volunteer crepe myrtles with my 6.5 hp Toro mower all the time. If your Land Pride wussed out over one little ol crepe myrtle you need to upgrade. :cautious:

What you describe sounds more like traumatic damage as opposed to normal wear. Not quite clear if the crash involved the deck only, blade only, or both. When you replace the spindle, check the blade to ensure it isn’t bent, check the blade to ensure it’s level when installed (deck isn’t bent where the spindle attaches), and the blade spins without hitting the deck. Hopefully replacing the spindle fully resolves the issue.

If the thread of the nut is fine the spindle thread must be damaged. Could be due to tightening it too much (impact wrench) in the past. Typically the nut would get damaged first, did you check that?

Not sure if hitting something could cause that, if it's plants I'd say rather not. I am hitting branches in the woods and wooden boards lying around all the time and big stones (cutting the neighbours grass 🙄) and recently concrete kerb stones (ahem..., yes, I know 🤪) and nothing came loose. I changed the blades two days ago, see also here: Link RC48 blade change

Something‘s not quite adding up here. If the whole assembly is “loose" the issue would have to be more than just the spindle. For an outside spindle at least, one of the bearings would likely have to have disintegrated somewhat.

So I’m guessing that the bolt the secures the blade to the spindle came loose and the person that checked it out for you concluded that the threads inside the end of the spindle that the bolt threads into have been damaged beyond repair and therefore the spindle needs replaced. And perhaps what you’re feeling is the blade not being securely fastened to the end of the spindle, and getting the sense that the whole assembly is loose when it probably isn’t. If that was the case the person that checked it out would probably also be ordering bearings and seals.

Have you been greasing the spindles regularly like the owners manual suggests? I believe it’s something like 10 pumps of grease every 10 hours maybe. I don’t do mine that frequently but I do try to pump a lot of grease in when I do grease it. Usually 15 pumps, since you can’t really over grease and excess grease is forced out the bottom seal as designed.

Sounds like it won’t be long until you’re back in business mowing grass without worry!
