Came up the county road from 1 1/2 mile away to help a guy. Another neighbor came out and said he thinks my old geared unit with the backhoe is faster than his tractor.

I can't remember what I said.... Maybe for the best.

If it's in the steering box, you can get rebuild parts or even a whole new box.

It is in the box, not the ends. Right in the middle. I know not to tighten it. But I rarely go fast and I was actually impressed. The 'ol thing really hunkered down but was a bit smoky.

There is no reconciliation of total hours. At least three hour meters since I got it. But it just goes and goes.

Done. But I'll have to paint it. Thanks Wolfman.

That paint for blue stuff isn't readily available.

Yeah, I seem to remember my B7100 being stupid fast in top gear. Steering wasn't an issue unless in top gear throttled up, then it was amusing. Like the disney autopia cars.

I miss that B7100 sometimes.

I was in town yesterday and the store had the full display rack of Rustoleum. From memory it looks like what they call Dark Grey Gloss was the closest match. There is no option called Old Faded Oxidized Dark Grey Matte. ;)

According to Tractor Data a geared B7100 is a little slower than the hydrostatic version.

It seems as 'fast as a fool' in top gear in high range with several inches of play in the steering wheel. It is controllable but dicey on narrow lanes. I lived it in my teens in the 1970s driving the B7100 to do tractor work for neighbors. To by knowledge, my B7100 was before there was Hydrostatic anything in Kubota. It was all manual gear drive back then.

And because I grew up on a tractor with a manual transmission, that is my preference. Even today. My current LX2610 is a hydro, but if it was available in gear shift with shuttle when I bought it in 2022, I would have gone that way.

I get it. I also grew up with manual transmissions. I much prefer manual transmissions when available. Especially in vehicles.

That's me. A geared machine with a clutch.

And this is why I hate MS Windows. It's the computer version of automatic transmissions.

This is a bummer.... The new steering gear/box from Kumar Bros via Amazon, I filled it with 90wt. It's ready to install but yesterday I noticed the 90wt is leaking out of the adjustment locknut. I've got a few more days before the 30 day return window to investigate further but I'm not getting any love from Kumar Bros via email OR by phone.

Customer service is such a crap shoot these days, sigh.

Easy fix, pull the nut off and put a gasket under the nut.

Yup, on the agenda today. Have to be careful to not show any tool marks in the event the box has to go back. I don't know how the locknut holds the adjustment screw and seals at the same time - yet. But darn it, a manufacturer fresh part and I have to tear into it out-of-the-box. To add, I am pretty sure this is aftermarket, not OEM.

I was not happy so see a review that said this box broke in ten days but such is the stuff of reviews... it doesn't say if someone 'hooked' a wheel or what happened. Such is the stuff of reviews.

@North Idaho Wolfman : You are worth your weight in gold.
