I have no experience with this, but that pin bears quite a bit of weight. I cant imagine a weld would hold. I'm curious what others would say.

I wonder - would it be possible to add a gauge for temperature? Where would be the best place to mount a probe? I get nervous that the little 'whistle' wont sound alerting a problem.

@Ray - after mounting, I would just fill it with the 5-gal containers. This would keep me from going to the gas station so often. I thought about taking it down, filling it up at the gas station, then putting it back up - I'd use the front-end loader for that - would be way too heavy to lift...

Great info, guys. Also, good point about the grounding rod. I suspect static electricity wouldnt be too good around this thing! I think I'll find a way to mount it and see how it works.

Update: I tried the hydraulic jack approach with the hood bolted into place. I used various boards and pressure points and got it looking much better. It's good enough for me to get started on sanding, priming, painting, etc. Look for a future post with my progress - thanks all!

Thanks Daren, I read the whole story, which was very interesting by the way. I seemed to have skipped over: "Often a Z prefix was added to the existing Kubota model number identifier making an L1501 into a ZL1501 tractor. " I'm assuming that the L185 model doesnt come into play with my tractor...
