Found the problem. Water in the fuel. Disconnected the line to the injector pump and pumped about 3 oz into a glass jar and the bottom fourth was water. Drained the tank and lines, fresh fuel, and it's running great. I pulled the tank to check for cracked lines or some other way water could...

Ran for about five minutes and stopped suddenly after belching white smoke. Turns over fast but no fuel when I open an injector line.

It's actually a GF1800E with the D722FM engine. It's approximately 18 years old and has about 1200 hours.
