Well I checked the engine oil and it certainly isn't overfilled. Quite the opposite because most of it is spread across my front yard. FML. Would overfilling it when I serviced it cause the cap to blow off? I was diligent in following the recommended capacity when refilling with Kubota brand...

I did fill the machine with fuel before starting to mow and accidentally filled it to the brim, possibly blocking the vent in the fuel cap. Can't imagine that would cause the fuel can shaft cover to pop off

Did not appear to have any sort of silicone or adhesive on it when I was cleaning it up to temporarily reinstall

How is the fuel cam shaft cap usually secured? I gently pressed it back on in order to get mower back no my shop
