It is time to clean up the deck for the G5200 we bought for my Grandson. I have everything off of it but the outer spindles. It will get sandblasted tomorrow and then on with the weld repair on the holes in the top of the deck. So, how do I get the pulleys off so I can remove the bolts holding the spindle casting? From the parts diagram, it looks like my only choice is to drive the keyed shaft out of the pulley. What I don't know, is if I drive it out, will the key hit the upper bearing and stop it. Anyone have experience with it?

No you don't have to remove the feather key, but I usually do so I don't loose it, the key is for the pulley, not the spindle as the pictures below will show.

Thanks, I didn't realize the shaft stepped up. As I said, I thought it was the same diameter as the inner race of the upper bearing and would stop the shaft from going very far.

The key does catch on the inner race of the upper bearing, so I had to use a narrow drift punch between the pulley inner diameter and the threaded portion of the shaft. After soaking in penetrant all night, the shafts finally came out of the pulleys and I got the spindle castings off!

Like I said I take the dang little thing out because losing it sucks.
I'm tearing down a RC60-71B right now, hope the weather holds with me till after gobble day and I get it painted.

I know what you are saying, but I couldn't get the key out. It was stuck in the pulley. So my only choice was to drive the shaft on down, leaving the key in the pulley until the pulley was loose. Then the key came out with the pulley.
