I just got me tractor back from having the 50 hr checkup(L3800), I mentioned to the service foreman with my forks on my tractor would just barely lift 990 lb pallet off a truck. I told him I had read here about adjusting the hydraulics for increase lift capacity ? He said what I read was shimming the pump to increase the presser there for increasing the lift capacity. He checked the PSI was at 2400. Factory spec was 2280-2410 PSI. He installed .3mm of shim . Rechecked the PSI it was at 2515 PSI. A gain of 115 PSI. I'll have to see if I notice any difference moving logs this coming weekend.

I really don't think you'll even notice the difference, 115lbs is almost nothing when you dealing with hydraulics.

115# x area of piston x 2 will make over 1000# more lifting force which will translate to around 150# more lift to the loader.

What kind of forks are you using? IF they are clamp on forks that smash onto the lip of the bucket the lift will be very weak because the load is that much further away from the hydraulics. If you have a decent pair of forks on a QA frame and get the load in closer to the loader lift arms you should be good to do.

Distance means everything when lifting a load. The closer the better.

I don't use clamp on forks I have a set of quick connect pallet forks. I figure by having the shims added. I at least have 'all' the lifting power possible with my tractor and I'm pleased with that.

Make sure you have 1000 lbs or so on the 3 pt!
