Need help in locating new cylinders for my loader. Having trouble finding something that is the right with on the ends. Specs are as follows retracted length 30 inches, 20 inch stroke, 2 inch bore.
Everything I've found so far is too wide. The width I have to stay close to is 2 5/8 inches on one hand and 2 1/8 inches on the other.
Rebuild is out of the question, welded on ends
. Too costly to cut off and try to repair.

Dear NIW: Thanks for the Bailey's link. Didn't know they existed.

Regarding Utopia's replacement cylinders: I've had problems working things like this via Internet---unless a direct replacement part is listed and even then the entire process is a bit problematic, involving downtime and multiple back-and-forth frustrating conversations and shipping.

This is one of those times it seems to work better to drag the old OEM to a reputable hydraulic shop (often best found in the 'industrial' area of a nearby large city) and let them repair, rebuild, or build new to match exactly.

Doing so might be expensive (compared to base cost from Internet) but saves so much in time energy effort that it seems worth it to me. And you'll generally get a better quality first-time-it-fits part that should just about last the life of your machine: A one-time expense amortized over years or decades isn't so bad a deal.

Please post back your continued experiences so that we may all learn.

Called a couple of repair shops in Houston..............sticker shock.
Most wanted north of $175 per cylinder.
Most of the cost was machining the end off, and welding back on.
I can cut the cross T end off and weld it back on. I couldn't get a good answer as to why they cut the other end off. Finding the correct parts could pose a problem, not to mention the possibility of the cylinder not being in good shape.

I'll still keep hunting for new. Most replacements in the 20" travel range run between $95 - $130 range. So far the biggest problem has been find one that will fit between the existing mounts. If I find one close, I can either cut some off the ends of the T or weld new side plates on the "outboard" end mounts.

One thing I did get from talking to repair shops is that welded end cylinders are pretty much throwaways.

I have a link on this forum under B8200 cyl repair on the ones I used for replacements. I'm posting from my phone so I can't repost the link.

I don't do cylinder work very much but I have never seen any that the ends need to be cut off so they can be rebuilt. I have rebuilt several on my Bobcat and none of them were like that. The ends have nothing to do with the cylinder coming apart.

You're exactly right.

Remove the retainer ring, pull the end seal assembly out, remove the piston, install new seals, new piston rings and reassemble.

Just did it on my son's David Brown power steering cylinder, but he had all the right parts.

I think the problem started when I was asked if they were welded. I guess during a senior moment I said yes, for some reason.

Not knowing the brand makes it more difficult, but I'll disassemble and get the parts matched back in Houston.

I took mine apart and went to a small little tractor repair shop close to me. They had all the seals I needed and it was $20 out the door.

Look for a local hydraulic repair shop. They should be able to find the parts you need.

OK, called two dealers, and the first had no idea, the second in Houston says they don't carry the parts, but would try and find out where to get them.
You guys seem to have it more under control than most if you can get stuff and I can't.

Finally relief.
Found 3 kits in Houston. They are obsolete parts so I ordered all 3.
Problem is I can't buy from them, has to go through a tractor dealer, so now I have to get them ordered for me.
Price to dealer is $28.
Guy actually had a sales brochure showing and saying they are ARPS 20.

Still looking for 1 more kit.

Thanks one and all for the help.

Make sure you do not have any nicks or damage to the rods and especially inside the tube, close inspection is important or you just wasted your time and ruined new parts.

Both rods and tubes are repairable at a good hydraulic shop as most have rechroming capabilities and machine capabilities.

Look at the piston, if it has wear marks on the side of it chances are you have tube damage as well where they touched.
