Well the attack is the easy part. Succeeding, well that's the uncertain part of the project BUT seeing I live on an island, IF it don't work out someone can always use it for an ancore. ;)

Easter used to be my favourite holiday until last year, The wife told me the Easter bunny wasn't real. Spoiled it altogether for me
What's next, no tooth fairy?

Top quality work as always!!. Reading through this thread has sparked some ideas for the gen set I'm building. I like how you have the generator removable for other uses, interesting idea. I think I'm going for raw weight, estimated finished weight at 1800 pounds.

Outages here aren't frequent, but they can be long. Last year, ice took out power for17 hours, then the following summer a wind storm took it out for 3 days, then sandy took it out 15 hours.

Always a pleasure to read and see your work.

Thanks man for your kind words. I couldn't find anything on the market to use that fit my needs so I built this one. Glad you got a few ideas from it. That's what posting this stuff is all about. Not sure what mine weighs but I had to put it in place with the forklift. It's safe to say no one is walking away with it. :D

Thanks for taking the time to post. Much appreciated.

Just ordered a Kohler 14,000 watt standby gen for our house last week. We used to have wood heat and I had a prtable gen for lights, but it was a hassle to get it out, started and hooked up. Lose of power now would mean no heat with out the wood heater. We loose power at least once a year and sometimes up to a week. I have a pool house, ( no pool anymore) that the gen will go in. It will be protected from the weather and no one will know it's in there, unless it's running.

Looks like i may have to drag the gen out one more time. Ice and snow headed this way with many in the sw already with no power. Should have orded the big gen a week earlier.

Congrats on the new generator. Looks like your going to need it with the way the weather is going. That's a nice size generator. I have a Miller gas powered welding machine that puts out 13.000 watts so I got a backup generator to back up the new generator lol. Guaranteed not to loose the power now.
Good luck!

So last week I went to the Spokane, Wa V.A. for a treatment and my Dr. and I were talking about our tractors I knew there was a reason I liked him even though he has a blue one.

I had a follow up with him today and again we started talking about tractors and he said to me that he wanted to build a custom generator housing. He started to go on and on about this and that and what not. I said you should see what a tractor porn friend of mine made. He started to ask questions and finely he asked where is this guy I said Canada he said hummm that's where the one that I got the most of the idea from and then he said the darnedest thing.... Paul and Kathy I can't remember the last name and I said that would Mr. Wildfire aka Paul Short. What a small world we live in with this technology we have.

Paul you should be getting a call from Mark down here in the States. He is a good guy so if you are so inclined to hook him up please do :D

Paul, great design on the enclosure and tremendous fabrication job, as usual. I noticed the green box in your vid I watched yesterday with you and wifey clearing snow.

Greetings All, I have been lurking for a while just reading some posts until now. I wanted to comment on your Thread. First your signature, Excellence's... is as great as it is true. Well said.
I live in Downeast Maine and we loose power several times a winter. I have a electric start diesel 8500 no name generator and a Honda 3500 pull start generator. I love my Honda generator and it has enough power to run my house, water well and all. I can't remember the last time I needed the big generator. I have a old piece of plywood covering it. After seeing yours I will have to get to work. Maybe I can make a box that I can pick up with my 3pth that will hold my Honda and keep it safe and dry.

Steve I have to apologize for not answering your post. I just didn't see it. Sorry

That gen shelter has been a god sent to us this winter. We figured we'd never use it but the first time we lost the power was New Year's Eve and there was a storm on and record low temps and that generator ran for 21 hours in the shelter and didn't miss a beat. Life for us went on like as if the power never went out, we even had the Important stuff like "Internet" :D

Hi Skip. First of all welcome to the site and thanks for posting on my thread.

Glad you liked the shelter and the quality of the build. When I was building it my wife asked me if it needed to be that strong and I told her I wanted it to withstand hurricanes, earth quakes, tropical storms, falling trees and vandals plus I needed it to last two lifetimes. I'm sure it will meet all those requirements. :D

Good idea on the 3pt box. That would do for sure. I really like the portable generators. I can use ours for other things around the property if need be. A stand by genset wouldn't work well for me plus I love the Honda quality.
Thanks again for posting :)
