I was cleaning up the yard this morning and the power steering seemed to be stiff. Figured it was just cold. Then it would not turn to the left. Now I can spin the wheel almost a full turn before anything happens.:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: HELP:D Dusty

I'm not sure how your's works but my B8200 steers either with or without the PS working. Is the steering shaft coming out of the steering box moving the arm that much and there's just no assist? Or is the problem in the steering box itself?

Thanks for the reply Sockpuppet. It is in the steering box. I haven't got it apart yet. The steering wheel is being stubborn.I sprayed it down with wd40 and I will let it sit for a couple of hours. Untill I can get the steering wheel off I am kind of at a stand still. Wish me luck.:D Dusty

Good luck Dusty. :)

I drilled and tapped a couple of small holes in my wheel to get a puller to work on it. I couldn't get a bite on anything (that wasn't plastic) with my various pullers.

Steering wheel is off. Dash is off. I do not want to remove the steering box. I am going to try to fix it in the tractor.I do NOT want to plow all these driveways with the steiner. But I will take it as it comes. Good idea with drilling the holes Sockpuppet I just used a bigger hammer. Thanks for the replies Guys.I will keep you posted.:D Dusty

Box has to come out.Bearings are shot big time. And using that bigger hammer is going to cost me some time to fix up the top of that steering shaft. I was just going to replace the bearings but if anyone has done this before any clues to what else I might need.:eek::eek: Dusty:D:D

Dusty if the shaft is bent SUGGESTION ONLY I have a peice of 1.5 inch wide x 2.25 inches thick and some c clamps with angle welded on them to keep c clamp from turning. The shaft fits in middle of angle the metal bar is 20 inches long. I clamp down with clamp so the bend is in the middle of the c clamps then use a third to press or bend the shaft back to desired location or straight. This way I dont have to remove shaft. I am not to good at explaining myself that is whyI dont post a lot. Dont know if yours is bent or not but HAMMERS do funny things to a metal shaft. handy

Dusty,

I just finished rebuilding the MANUAL box on my B9200. I hope you don't have that stupid 2-piece steering shaft on your rig, like mine. I ended up welding mine @ the joint. Had to do it with the new bearing in place (that, was a real party). Anyway, here's a link that you may be able to get some tips from.......

I wish I had power assist, but @ $1,200.00 for a MANUAL steering box, I don't think the conversion would be cost effective, for me.

Hi Randy. Thanks for the great link that helps a bunch. My box has some thing similar but I don't think it is exactly the same. I will for sure be having a close look at it. I don't want to do this twice. The power assist on this tractor is just a cylinder with a valve on it that uses the standard steering box. The pitman arm actvates the valve. Pretty simple really. Thanks again for that link.:cool::cool: Dusty

It is apart and everything looks good other than the bearings which are toast. I think I have the same joint as you Randy. It looks in good shape. I think what saved it was the power assist. Heres a pic. Parts will be here in the morning.:D Dusty

I didn't bend the shaft. I peened the end of it. Not a big fix but it will take me an hour or so. Vic there is still a ton of things to do, seized clutch for one,and leaks that I don't even want to think about.First I have to find a time when I don't need it. Up untill like now when it decides to take some time off.:D Dusty

I'm impressed Dusty - if I tried to bring tractor parts inside on the dining table, I'd be eating AND sleeping with the Kubota!! Better get those back outside before they are found in the house!
