I have had a few good storms so far with no issue. Last night we had a slick 2in snow and this little tractor on the step driveway does great with just the rear chains. So far I haven't had an issue with the front, I leave it in float and four wheel drive works awesome. If I put down pressure on the snowblower I will raise the front so I just put in float.

Tried to install the 2-link chains on the rear of my BX-2670 today. 26x12-12 R4's I guess is what you call them. Tire chain size, 26/27x12-12. The chains don't seem to be any too wide, but probably sufficient. Length, however, is a different matter. I've removed 2 cross chains already, and they are still loosy goosy. That was as far as my back and hip would allow, I'll have to tackle them again another day.

I do have some 26x12-12 turf tires on Wheel Horse wheels, and I'm beginning to hope the wheels will interchange. Chains work best on turf tires anyway, and a quick zip zip with the impact will change wheel/tires in a lot less time and work than putting the chains on every fall anyway. In fact, that's what I've done the last 20 years, just swapped summer tires/wheels for winter chains/tires/wheels.

Hello Gso125. First post here on OTT. Did you go to Ahearn to ask about the front tire chains? I did ask them at one time about front tire chains and they said the same thing and did not recommend them at all. I've looked at tire studs and think it could be a better alternative for front wheel traction.
Just a thought.

why is it that the dealer says chains on the front will rip the axle?

I've got the spacers on mine, front and rear.
running Turf tires, I believe Front 18x8.5-10 and Rear 26x12-12.
what chains would you recommend? my first time around.

and will chains help in the mud?

Welcome to OTT. Yes I bought my bx25 from them. They said it could get to much bite and cause damage to the front drive line. I have had great luck with the rear chains only but did have one bind up the other day and it ripped off bending the hooks, I check them all the time and thought I might had lost air in that tire causing it to loosing up but they were fine. Anyways I ran it all morning blowing 12in of wet heavy snow with one chain never had an issue on my steep driveway.

Well, I suppose if the back wheels weren't engaged and you were pulling 100 percent with the front, you might break something. But, that's not even possible, just pulling from the front. I wouldn't have any problem putting chains on both ends if I needed them.
