How fast is it cranking? Does it have a good battery, not just 12+ volts but pass a load test. Do you have a charger/jump starter? If so, connect it to the battery to increase amperage and try to start it.

4 years ago mine would do the same thing as yours and that is what I did. The combined battery and jump/starter started the tractor right away. replaced battery, problem solved.

A quick easy test.

Agreed. A diesel has to turn over pretty fast to create enough heat from compression to ignite the fuel, seperate from what the glow plugs do. In other words, if it is turning over slow, it doesn't compress the air in the cylinder fast enough to generate heat to ignite the fuel that is injected.
I think on my Cummins, it has to turn over at least 400 RPM's to generate combustion.
If you want to get it started before figuring out what's going on with the glow plugs, get it cranking faster, and you can introduce a little bit of starting fluid.

The fuel has to reach a certain temperature before it will ignite- which is why there has to be sufficient compression and glow plugs (when the engine is cold). You might try taking a hot air gun and heating the block- get some heat into it. Or, go ahead and remedy the glow plugs.
Black is excess fuel- you may also want to pull the injectors and have them checked- because it has sat for a long time, they could be sticking open.
What is the history of the tractor? Did it run before it was stored? How did it run? If it did run, I wouldn't expect low compression, unless something was obvious from how it ran before.

I have a 750D here that does the same thing it has bad rings therefore has low compression. You can tell if that is your problem if it's smoking out of the breather tube when you trying to get it started.

I don't think there is a "glow plug relay"??? But there are many different models of the 7100's, so anything is possible.
You don't have a water pump, what your hearing noise out of is the dynamo, It's generates electric like an alternator.
The D750 in your 7100 uses a heat siphon system. It doesn't have a water pump or a thermostat either.

A fresh battery and a good battery are 2 different kinds, I don't think your fresh battery is strong enough to turn the engine over and heat the glow plugs, I would start with a good strong battery 500 cca, I don't think you have a problem, get it running for an hour or two and then see what happens.

Pull them out. If they are slightly bulged near the tips then they are stuffed. You can test them simply by connecting 12v to the threaded body and the connector of the plug. They should get hot fast.

A relay is just a switch that sends 12v to the glow plug wire. Simply connect a light or multimeter to the wire that goes to the glow plug. The other wire goes to earth. When you turn on the relay you should hear it click and the multimeter should show 12v.

Move toward the switch from the glow plugs, checking for voltage. See this attached link.

http://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11828

You probably have a hole in the dash with a silver ring around it (near the glow plug switch) that looks like a lens is missing. IF so, that is the glow plug indicator and should glow (but it has to be pretty dark to see it) if power is going to glow plugs. This may be the failure point. Check for voltage on the side not connected to the glow plugs to ensure power is coming from the switch.

Turn the switch counterclockwise and hold it there for 7 clicks on your hour meter or until the glow plug indicator turns orange/red. That is what I must do on my B7100HST and it fires right up everytime. Good luck!
