M7040 Compressor Failure?

I picked up a 2013 M7040 with 1400 hours from a family member. They stated “AC doesn’t blow cold”. After checking a few things I’m assuming compressor is shot!

I have already:

• Cleaned cabin filters
• Inspected evaporator under seat (all clear)
• Cleaned condenser and radiator
• Installed shutoff valves in heater core lines
• Put gauges on with tractor running and AC on it shows 100 on both low pressure side and high pressure side
• Clutch is spinning continuously

Just looking for ideas, suggestions or confirmation before I tear into it. Also curious if anyone can recommend the best place to buy after market components. Thanks in advance!

Never had to buy one but doing a quick search I found prices all over the place - $350 from tractorpartsasap to almost $1,000 from Kubota.

Maybe another member with more experience will chime in soon.

Is the compressor clutch engaged.or is the clutch just turning without turning the compressor shaft itself?
In the Texas heat,those gauge readings look like you're out of refrigerant?
No juice will show about ambient on the gauge.

Low Pressure cut out kicked in , low on refrigerant . Pull a Vacuum on system & checked for leaks 1st.

but if the low pressure cutout kicked in the clutch wouldnt be engaged would it? it seems to be engaged in the video, shaft spinning.

I'm thinking your compressor may very well be toast.
Seen it occasionally,as bee-positive posted!
I usually look up the Kubota part number and do an internet search for affordable replacements.

The OP may very will have a bad compressor.

In my experience pressure gauges don't read temperature. Ambient or otherwise. His gauges looked (to me anyway) to both read approximately 84 PSI. My experience tells me that's NOT low on charge. 70 to 80 PSI static pressure would about right in any system this time of year. He has problems, granted, but the system being low on charge is not one of them. If we're going to offer help, let's at least offer correct information.

I agree. Looking around now for compressor, drier, and expansion valve at least. Trying to device on weather or not to grab a condenser and evaporator. I’m a do it once kinda guy, but also trying to not spend a bunch of $$ on things I don’t need.

Hard to tell if the expansion valve is bad or not unless the system is running and you can determine the symptoms. But a bad valve can ruin your day by damaging other components so adding the drier and expansion valve, given their age, might be worth it.

If the condenser coil and evaporator coil look to be in good shape I wouldn't think you'd have to replace them. I imagine if a lot of moisture got into the system they could corrode from the inside out eventually, but I'd roll the dice on that one.

Do what your budget allows.
