I just split my Kubota 3901 at only 224 hours. Maybe I’m just a bad operator. Not sure. Finally figured out the front driveshaft removal and drove out the front roll pin. When I split the tractor the drive shaft came out of the back splines. I did mark the the front of the shaft but not sure if the back end has moved or not and what to do about it if it did move. Also went with a clutch pack from Kentucky clutch for around 700 dollars. Couldn’t see going the 2200 + at the dealership. Welcome all input/advice. Thank you!

There is no Clocking on the drive shafts, if that's what your asking.

I guess that’s is what I was asking. I had seen somewhere that said to be sure and mark the splines and be sure it went back in exactly as it came out or bad vibrations and damage would result. Thank you so much for your reply.

That's more for assembling a shaft itself; U-joints have to be in phase with each other. But if you are not disassembling the shaft then you should be fine.

Thank you all for the replies and info. I’m having trouble using the site because of all the pop up ads. Guess I’ll move to paid subscription. I got the tractor split and installed the pilot bearing and torqued the flywheel. Then when I went to install the new clutch pack it was too big. It measured 10 1/2 inches across the mounting bolt holes and my old one measured 10 inches center to center of the bolt holes. I called the place I ordered it from and they have the right one on the way. I can’t find anywhere that tells me there’s 2 different size clutch packs for the l3901 tractor. Just curious if anybody else has run into this.

Depends if your dealing with a L3901HST, L3901DT, or L3901F

What do you have and what part numbers did you order?

I have the L3901D. I ordered the part from Kentucky Clutch and just gave them my tractor model number. They are a clutch rebuilder and may have been a mix up on their end. The local dealer was just too high at 2200 just for the clutch pack.

Without a part number associated with ordering a clutch from a vendor, your at their mercy to get it right.

Are you just replacing the clutch disk and not the whole assembly?

I am replacing the whole assembly. I’m obviously on the low end of a steep learning curve. I’ve split and replaced clutches in older tractors but not the newer models. The people I ordered from only asked for the model number and obviously sent a clutch for a different model. The pilot bearing, release bearing and clutch plate are the same. Just the clutch pack is bigger. Thank you.
