I have a new to me G2160 that I'm working on, it starts and runs great, but the power steering doesn't seem to be working at all. I have looked at the troubleshooting and there are several telling me to look at the box for a flashing light, while I can see the box, I don't see a light anywhere on it. Does anyone have a photo of where that light is so I can verify? Thanks in advance!

The light is a small LED. I dont recall the exact location but if it was flashing you would see it. Thats electric power steering Have you checked the fuse and power supply pin?

Replaced the fuses, all 4 of them, no changes. Unplugged the top plug to the control unit, and plugged it back in, but wasn't sure what wire on that group carries power..... Let me snap a pic of it quick and upload it.

If only there was a book, a manual, or a guide on properly diagnosing and repairing this issue.
Oh wait there is, the WSM. šŸ˜‹

Look at the envelope the top right of your screen. ;)

Is it not "working" or not "calibrated"? When I got mine it wasn't working. I researched a lot on it. Found a number of minor electrical issues (a blown fuse, a bad connection to the oil pressure switch, mis-calibrated, amongst the issues) got them squared away and I now have one finger power steering. Been working fine for a few years now since I sorted it all out. BTW little things like mismatched pressure in front tires, and such can throw things out of whack.
I found a UTUbe on calibrating it as WSM is clear as mud

The WSM has extensive diagnostic information. The LED on the controller is supposed to illuminate for ~5 seconds when the key is turned to RUN. That would be my first check.

Thank's, I'm headed down the rabbit hole now. A little skeptical since my square box never has flashy light, so I'm worried the expensive part is going to be the part needing replaced.

Also, this is the box, and the angle I can see it, when I turn the key on, and start the engine, no light ever comes on anywhere that I can see on this box.
You really need to read the WSM I sent you!
I'm pretty sure your either looking at the wrong part, or looing at it from the wrong angle.

I heartily second the WSM advice.

Its been over a decade since I worked on mine but ISTR I had to remove one or both perforated panels to get to that controller.

Yeah... I'd not jump to the assumption the box is bad. Verify it is getting power and has a good ground. Looking at the images you provided, it looks pretty grubby. Un-plug, clean with CRC Electrical parts cleaner, and test with a meter.

Find the light and turn the key on. If its working the light will come on.

This PS system has a long history of problems with bad/dirty connectiins. Its also prone to loss of calibration and "failing safe".

I think the LED is visible (but not illuminated) in his last picture to the side of the connections.

That's a screw head not a light

His pic he's looking down on it, he needs to look at it from the side.
The light is on the opposite side of the connectors:
It also looks to be pointed to the seat.

Thanks everyone, I'm working on getting the steering wheel off now, so I can get the dash off and see that whole box. I'll update once I have more data.
