I'm looking to add a rck60-30bb mid mount mower deck to our b2650. Is it possible to mow blackberries? I do it yearly with either a flail mower or a brush hawg (?)...though a mid mount would make for a more compact package.

Well yeah, I mowed Blackberry's and wild roses and even bamboo ( I hate that stuff) with the BX so yeah a 2650 would not be a problem with a MMM. How I did it, the deck all the way up, make your first pass SLOW, and depending how thick the patch is ,after the first pass take about have the with of the deck with each pass up and back. When you get them knocked down lower your deck and have another go at them. SLOWLY And By the by those stocks are hard on the cutting edge, so you might want to think about getting a second set of blades, to change out while you sharpen the others. J M H you understand

Thanks...slow it will be. Mostly low blackberries, some scotch broom...fortunately no bamboo...can't imagine that one.

Yeah the bamboo was left over from when my wife had her herb business and green houses, and someone want some, and the rest nobody wanted got planted.. Who knew that would be a PIA to get rid of, 20 years later and Im still trying to get rid of it.

Yes, you can do it with patience and care but your MMM is not designed for such and durability will be affected.

You could probably rent a rotary cutter (brush hog, rough cutter,…) to cut them low for the first time then use your MMM to maintain.

I mowed blackberry and a bunch of small shrubbery with my B2601 with MMM.

Doing it annually isn't enough - it will keep coming back. If you mow it monthly (in the growing season) you'll eventually get on top of it, and grass will come up.

One big lesson for me was that I put a chain on the discharge boot on my mower, and pulled it up with a dog clip around the loader stick. Having it up stops the boot getting torn off, but even better, the combination of the loader stick and the chain directs the blackberry down the side of the tractor instead of grabbing my legs and hands.

good point about mowing monthly vs. once a year. Currently I'm using either a flail mower or brush hog when 'outside the fence' and a old riding mower (which we just got rid of) inside the fence...outside is meadow, inside is small vineyard, orchard, lawn etc.
Don't have a mid mount yet. Happen to see one on marketplace and that's what got me to thinking about this.

A couple of years ago I mowed down a roughly 20' x 30' patch of wild blackberries that had gotten full of weeds and grape vines. I used my zero turn first set to highest point. Had no issues at all. Still wondering as to why the blackberry's did not re-sprout the following year as expected.
