Yes I have seen that. Older rough shape but running condition excavators for around 30k. I would need to move it so that’s why I mentioned to stay under about 15k lbs.
I don’t have a lowboy and don’t plan on getting one unless I can make money with it.

Found some KX’s within driving distance to check out when I get a chance but still deciding on a good size.
Again, depends what you're doing. A one-time move to your house is doable - pay someone. If it then stays home for everymore, they're practical. If you plan to take it places then it's clearly unworkable.

Yes we have already established that.

Looking into the possibility of buying one larger and doing side work. New or used? For tax reasons? I see a lot of this mentioned but no real good explanation. Either pay new price with 0% or way lower price with interest. It seems to work out that it’s still cheaper to buy used.

On the Kubota KX models any difference in cab size between the 030, 033, and 040’s?

This is the sort of thing I'm looking at, a KX-040 with under 2,000 hours. It's easily transported, has relatively low hours, has an hydraulic thumb, angled blade, will have the 2,000 hour service completed, and is a lot cheaper than the new equivalent, and the dealership is awesome. I would have snapped this up already if not for needing to pay off both tractors first.

But people still want silly money for 20+ year old stuff. There's a CAT 426B with 10,000 hours on it locally and the owner wants $30k. 😮 That's nuts.

Again, I don't know your situation, but the fixed costs of a business seems to make operating a part-time business profitably difficult. Insurance especially, lots of customers require it and I wouldn't want to work without it. Especially excavating, hit a little ole fiber, much less a pipeline, and you could be held liable for a bunch.

Not sure about physical size differences, but I was told by the dealer that the KX-033-4 is the smallest size that has both heat and A/C in the cab.

First I have heard that. I haven’t seen anything in the brochures about it but only looked briefly.
Called a few places yesterday about some used 040’s and what I’ve ran into now they will only finance with an existing business. So I’ll have to figure that out.

That's affirmative. I think the smallest option in a zero tail with both heat and AC is the U-35.

I ran a KX-033 for a couple of years. Decent digging power for utility work. Cab is measurably bigger than my U-27.

As someone who has only rented a mini excavator and never owned one, I want the counterweight that comes with the KX models. I understand that a zero tail is great in many applications, but it's just not a feature I'd need. 10,000 lb minimum machine weight too.

Takeuchi and Yanmar both make excellent minis too in case you want to widen your search @JasonW .

Excavators??!!
I thought the topic was:

When I lived in Houston, a topless 'club' out on the east side lost their liquor license temporarily, which cut into their business considerably. So the girls started a carwash. They weren't topless, quite, but, I heard it was an eye full, right in the windshield.
