I have read enough and will go to kubota dealer maybe Monday. I can’t find a part number for the “kit” for 3rd function so I’m going to price it and use the info they offer. If i can’t beat their price then i will just scrounge up my penny’s - they say buy once cry once and my dad says it’s nothing but paper😂. I appreciate you fellas input on my problem ! I do plan on installing myself so i may create a new post soon on install help.
The kit is a "whole goods" package for the LA1153 loader.

Option # M1867 for ROPS machines
Option # M1977 for cabbed machines

Messicks lists both at $1021.

Old hokie i sure do appreciate that info ! Not sure why but when searching googling it’s hard to find ! Do you think Messicks is the place to buy ? M1867 ? Not sure on what the “whole goods” is but if i can get the grapple going with efficient protected lines and control from the bucket stick then that sounds like the route i want to go. And 1k is looking cheap ! Shame i got grapple for 1500. And connections will be 1k but i see me using grapple for myself a lot down the road. As pappy says it’s nothing but paper ! Thanks for the info

Not sure on what the “whole goods” is ….
Whole goods is through the sales department at a dealership and not the parts department. They are generally a complete kit to be added onto a tractor at purchase or after purchase.

They are usually priced much lower than the individual parts. For example a rim with a tire mounted is cheaper through whole goods than an individual tire through parts.

"Whole goods" are implements and packaged options as opposed to "parts". The parts department does not handle whole goods sales. You need to speak with a salesperson as to what is included ln that package. I am reasonably sure its not everything shown on the parts diagram.

The factory 3rd function kit for my M6060 with part number M7992 cost me $1,708 installed by the local dealer back in 2022. I bought the tractor off the lot in Sheridan and it would have been considerably cheaper had I ordered the tractor and added the 3rd function to the order. In comparison, when I ordered the MX in 2021 with 3rd function it was $1,300 installed. So $1,021 for the kit for your tractor seems very reasonable.

You could ask a salesperson at you local Kubota dealer what the cost would be for the kit, but I doubt it'll be any cheaper. For current tractor models, you only have to use the Build My Kubota feature on Kubota's website to see what the option costs when ordered through sales. I upgraded my M6060 to rear wiper and rear defrost (three pieces of glass) which comes with a more powerful alternator and swiches for the cab and it was a little over a $1k through sales, but would have been over $5k through parts.

Fellas i have to ask this ! Huge difference in price ! Anything wrong with WR Long ? The Kubota dealer sells them !
How huge - $600 vs $1000?

As stated early on the only real difference is cosmetic.

The OEM kit MAY be a little cleaner looking but functionally they all do the same thing using the same basic valve and joystick button control. In your case Kubota also offers a hydraulic SSQA latching option (more plumbing and more money) that leverages the third function plumbing.

Well not that huge ! 1200. Installed with the wr long and 1250 for the kubota and i install plus if i want the different connectors with the kubota then 250 more. The grapple has the flat end connections (newer style i assume). I can change those and wont need but will still have to buy two old style to go on grapple hoses

I believe i can install - i need to find the right hose to disconnect (green) and figure out where to pull power from for the switch. The only advantage with the kubota kit is it has two short metal lines where the wr long is just hose. Plus I’m sure i can’t talk kubota dealer into coming to house to install. Will have to haul tractor to them - not a big deal but it will be two trips !

Why are you hung up on couplers? Many people would tell you to put flat face couplers on the tractor side. Cost wise thats probably a break even choice.

I think this is becoming an exercise in paralysis by over analysis.

To me the Kubota kit is worth the extra cost over any other options, and since you'd install it yourself you'd only be out of pocket to the tune of $50 more compared to the W.R. Long, Inc. kit and you'd have a much nicer 3rd function. As has been said though, they all kind of work the same regardless, or at least do the same job. The Kubota kit for your tractor is similar to the one on my M6060. The MX factory 3rd function comes with hoses that run along the loader arms. It's well done with protective nylon sleeves the entire length of the hoses, and nice clamps that secure the hoses to the loader, and stainless bands that secure the nylon sleeves to the hoses. But hard lines are better and more durable in my opinion and that's what you get with the Kubota kit.

Buy once, cry once! 😂

Its simple you want the factory look or not. There's no free lunch. If want to run the grapple the cheap way go to Surplus Center web site and buy some flat face couplers, some hoses and hose protector and run the hoses from the rear remotes to the front of the loader and be done with it. Steel lines look nice but loaders of full of hoses. Like a couple more will make a difference.

I like the flat face couplers. A pair shouldn't cost near $250. Make sure you get the right size regardless.

Mcmxi you just cost me a lot of money ! I really like the looks of the factory setup a lot. I know they function the same and i thought about using the rear remotes like hedgerow mentioned. i heat with a central boiler and cut a lot of firewood so i see the grapple being used a lot down the road. can anyone tell me if the kubota kit comes with any instructions ?? i believe this is the route im going to take but worry about installing correctly. fellas i really appreciate the effort on posting for my problem ! I will post back on progress and probably with more questions thanks again

You will get instructions but hydraulically its a two hose hookup.

Disconnect loader PB hose at junction and reroute to P on the 3rd function.

Run new hose from T on 3rd function valve back to junction.

If you know your alphabet its hard to get it wrong

You're welcome! 😂 The cost will fade into distant memory and you'll be all warm and fuzzy knowing that you saved money by installing the kit yourself, and that you have the best (factory looking) 3rd function available. Also, you can run other implements out front beyond just a grapple. I run a PHD and hydraulic angle snow blade out front on both tractors in addition to the grapple. Lots of options and great ergonomics when you have a well-designed 3rd function.

Not advocating for anything in particular, but since you mentioned your dealer sells WR Long, this is what the WR Long on my open station looks like. No hard lines. Hoses. I spec’d a third function at the dealer when I bought the tractor and this is what they did. Looks like you’ve made a reasonable decision. Posting for others who may read this thread in the future.

$1000/hr for some wrench turning that takes no special tools or skills. Sounds like a good deal for the dealer. Added $500 to the cost of my tractor, but that was several years ago and part of a much larger deal.
