I was just offered a 6 ft flail mower for a great price but believe it is too large for a bx-23. Does anyone have experience with this?

YUp I think your asking for trouble with a 72 incher, the BX 23 has only 18 rated HP at the PTO would it work,,, most likely,,, would it work well,,,,,
it's doubtful,,, are you going to tear something up sooner or later???,, take that to the bank,,,, just HMO you understand

Thanks for the replies. It is hard to pass up a great deal. If the weight is 900+ pounds I'm sure it is too heavy. The model is stamped on the tag as a ford 22-124. After researching online some state this is also designated as a ford model 907 which comes in at 602 lbs. I'll see if I can find more info.

Don't think you can lift it.
Made a ballast box for my L175. Weight was around 675lbs.
Worked fine until summer temps hit 90 and above. Had to remove 140lbs of it to get it to lift.
Flail mowers also take more HP than other mowers.

After your comments and more research I decided to pass. A good deal is not so good if the purchase doesn't work properly. Thanks again for your input.

If it's a REALLY good deal, buy it and resale it for a profit. Then, buy a mower more suited to your tractor.

My first Kubota was a B5100DT. Came with a 4 foot Mott flail mower. The B5100DT was only 10HP if I remember correctly. It handled that mower without any problems at all. Used it to mow my yard for years before moving and selling it. You may be able to handle a 72 inch mower but would not recommend it. I would look into what the Kubota dealer suggests for your model.

I agree with Hodge, you also might find someone with a smaller one that is looking to trade up.

I seriously considered going ahead and buying this flail mower and trying to resell it but it seems that it is so much easier for me to collect items than to sell them.

In Western North Carolina there is not much market for flail mowers so good used locally owned machines are kinda hard to find and even harder to sell or trade. Most people around here have no experience with one if they even know what it is.

So I decided to wait to find a machine that fits my needs and not take on the hassle of trading up or down.

Thanks for the comments!
