I don't live close to a dealer that I would buy from, so I ordered a new tractor from out of state. I asked the salesman twice and was told it had 1-2 hours on it, but when it arrived it had 8 hours. They admit it was not right to tell me 1-2 hours which is normal set-up time, and deliver it with 8 and have only offered compensation of some oil change supplies. They admit this is 'not typical and high' and say they have no idea where the hours came from. That not knowing is what bothers me most. What would be fair compensation for basically getting a demo unit with mystery hours and not a new one I bargained for with 1-2 hours?

These tractors last thousands of hours, 8 is nothing. May have been someone left the key on. Get a hat or tshirt out of them and enjoy your new tractor.

Not really the point… if a salesman says it has 1-2 hours and he delivers with 8? Really? Like buying a car…guy says 22k miles and delivers with 24k miles. Got to get it right! How hard is it to read a dial when selling someone?

are you saying motor does not need to be running to have hours accumulate? Just key turned?

There isn't any way for us to know how good of deal you got. Maybe it's still a good deal. If you like the dealer otherwise, ask what they will do for you. If you took delivery, it's probably going to be hard to "make" them do anything.

As noted though, 8 hours isn't much. I don't know how much stress you are willing to endure for this issue. I suppose it's up to you.

Congratulations, i think.

JMHO, (it’s not my money either), but unless there is something visibility / functionally wrong (not new looking), then I would get the manual, read it and then find all the controls and check all the service points (grease zerks, oils, fluids, etc) check the wheel bolt torque, all the functions including getting familiar with the loader stick, and then go enjoy the tractor.

congratulations on the new machine. Try to enjoy it.👍. Or don’t and refuse delivery or send it back and don’t be surprised if they refund your money and refuse to sell you another machine.

Nice tractor. Checked one out a few months back. If I ever upgrade, that the tractor I want. I would take one full service supplies for their mistake, if you plan on doing your own. Sounds like they fired it up to let it warm up before moving it on the trailer, just let it warm up a bit long . You’re good to go. But as suggested above, go through it thoroughly by checking fluids and greesing it up. Dealers are the most observant when doing this. Enjoy your new tractor. Don’t forget, PICTURES!

Yeah....but....don't be surprised if I refuse to buy from them again!....unless they can learn to take the time to give accurate information. There will always be someone, some dealer, willing to take cash. I am not worried about being able to buy more equipment down the road. Long distance sight unseen purchases have a ton of trust in them, and they should know to take extra care on accurate information if someone is willing to send them $30K sight unseen.

No, a Kubota tractor will not accumulate hours if the key is turned but the engine is not running
. The hour meter on a tractor is connected to the engine's ignition system and only counts hours when the engine is running.
  • Engine hours are based on runtime: The hour meter is a tool for tracking how long the engine has been active, not just the time the key is in the "on" position.
  • Key position is not the only factor: Simply turning the key to the "on" position does not activate the hour meter. The engine must be running to accumulate hours, whether the tractor is moving or idling.
  • Mistakes happen: Leaving the key on can be a frustrating mistake that artificially inflates the hours on a machine, which is why it's important to always turn the key off when the engine is not in use.

Have you verified that your hour meter does not run with key in "run" position and engine not running?

AI is notorious for bad answers and data. I copied and pasted this just now when I asked AI.

Hour Meter Functionality in Kubota LX2620
Key Position Impact
  • The hour meter in the Kubota LX2620 will run when the key is in the "run" position, even if the engine is not running.
Common Issues
  • This behavior is not unique to the LX2620; many older tractors have similar designs where the hour meter counts time whenever the ignition is on.
Recommendations
  • To avoid inaccurate hour readings, it is advisable to turn off the key when the tractor is not in use.
  • Consider installing a reminder system, such as a buzzer or light, to alert you if the key is left on.
This will help ensure that the hour meter reflects actual engine running time, which is important for maintenance scheduling.

A Diesel engine does not have an 'ignition" system in the common sense being a compression ignition engine compared to a gasoline engine that uses spark plugs.

I do know for a fact my older Kubota B7100 hour meter will run simply by turning the key to the run position without the engine running.

It’s really no big deal. I can’t remember how many hours were on my L3800 I bought new.

If you were that concerned about it why didn’t you pick it up in person it verify the hours? So much as saying you will never buying from them again is pretty childish. IMO.
And comparing it to a demo unit is just as silly…
