I'm planning to torque the lug nuts on the rear wheels of my M5-111. The flat to flat measurement on them is about 34.7mm or about 1.37 in.. What size socket do I need for this? Are they metric or standard? I have a 34mm deep socket but it is too small. Should I get a 35mm socket or some standard size? Whatever it is, I'll have to buy it. 34mm and 1 1/4 inch are the largest I currently have that are deep enough for the job. I hope to buy the right thing the first time.

Thanks for your help.

Mike

35mm is 0.003" larger than 1-3/8", so either will work. I like 6 point sockets for these situations, but that's just me.

Harbor Freight has a set that looks amazingly similar! I recommend a 3/4" set if you're going to be doing tractor/implement repairs.

For some dumb reason I bought the 1" drive set. It starts at 1-5/8" so now I'm buying smaller sockets and adapters.

Thank you all for your replies. I’ve ordered a 1-3/8 inch deep socket for my 3/4 inch drive torque wrench. I have a 3/4 inch drive ratchet and socket set (Craftsman) but the studs stick out too far for the regular 1-3/8 inch socket in that set to work. This deep one should do the trick. Thankfully I have an extension in my set that is long enough.

By the way, I don‘t buy any sockets anymore except impact sockets. Avoids having to have two sets.

Appreciate it!

I agree. If I were starting over I'd buy the 3/4" drive deep impact sockets (6 pt), 1/2" drive deep impact sockets, 3/4 to 1/2 adapter, 3/4 breaker bar and 6" extension. I haven't encountered anything on my tractor that doesn't have clearance for that combination.
