quick attach 3 point

Perhaps someone can help me understand this. I can see how the quick attach works on blades and stationary equipment. The lower pins lock and the upper mount rests in a hook. How exactly does that work in the instance of a 3 point mower where the top mount pivots to allow the deck to float? I can't imagine it staying in that hook. Is there an additional adapter needed to keep it attached or does luck hold it in place? I can see a nice improvement in hooking up the box blade or ballast box but the mower I can't quite figure out.

Generally there are two different ways, some mowers/cutters have the floating linkage built in like the pictures below.
And there are floating adapter kits available from companies like Land Pride, Agri Supply, and even Horrible Fright:

The only time the top hook is working is when your lifting the mower, there's more than one style on even the same brand mowers. We recently added a quick hitch to the bx2350 at our ball diamond, our mower wasn't quick hitch ready. On our mower the top link part of the hitch floats as a unit back and forth and the lower pins drop to the ground making it very difficult to hook up.For the top hook I cut the little bracket that is welded to the arms that the top hook attaches to then added another bolt to the bracket so it still moves back and fort as a unit, for the lower pins i drilled a 1\4" hole through the threaded part of the pin then used an approx. 8" spring with an eye bolt on each end then drilled another hole in the top hook arms this holds up the lower pins for when you attach the deck and the top hook and arms move back and forth as you go the dips. It works fine and there are many different people using it without a problem.

Old post ... I know but I have the same question. I am way down the rabbit hole on quick hitches. So rather than making a new thread, I am reviving the old thread that a Google search found.

I measured all my implements' pin geometries today so I can bring the data home to analyze. I have a hodge-podge of implements of which only two are "labeled" as QH compatible and they are my two newer LandPride pieces.

Two of my implements have floating top links - the finish mower and bush hog. I cannot visualize how one connects a QH to a floating link. I found this video from LandPride

But as you can see he uses a bunch of plates, washers, bushings, and pins to set up the finish mower. This definitely - in my mind - disqualifies the "quick" from the hitching process.

Can anyone share insights or video links of just how a QH interfaces with the floating top link on a mower? If it is too fiddly with extra plates and bushings and pins AND if I have to buy longer PTO shafts - then I'll just keep muddling thru with the brute force method of implement wrangling.

My solution was to just get a set of Pat's Quick Hitch attachments that fit in the ends of your 3 point hitch lift arms. After all, the most difficult part of hooking up an implement is getting the ends of the arms lined up with the attachment points on the implement. With the Quick Hitch attachments you just back up against the implement, pushing it into alignment, then lift up the arms slightly and the arms are attached. Then use whatever top link you want - although it will need to be extended to account for the extra length of the Quick Hitch.

These will work with all 3-point hitch implements, not just those designed for quick hitch.

Maybe you're confusing two different pieces of equipment. A SSQA plate goes on the front for blades and stationary equipment. A Quick Attach Hitch goes on the 3pt. for the box blade, ballast box or mower.

I am well aware of the difference between the Quick Hitch at the rear and the SSQA at the front.

I am quite specifically looking for info on whether a 3pt QH requires all the extra BS parts as demonstrated in the LP video to attach to the floating top link pin.

I misunderstood your question. Just trying to help, sorry.

The short answer is yes you need the extra plates for a LP quick hitch. They can stay on permanently and just flip out of the way as in this picture.

Why do you need them? The link of the mower is in the hook anyway so are they just to be sure the implement doesn’t become unattached at the top link?

No the mower link is pinned to the other end of the plates and is not in the hook. This arrangement allows the mower to flex up and down behind the tractor. Other QHs can come with a similar type of arrangement as this one apologies for the green color and no pics of my setup

I disagree that the hook is not used. Look at the video above. Start at about 1:13 and watch him install the pin and bushing. He then makes some statements about adjustments to the top link.

This picture from the video clearly shows the bushing inside the hook. I guess I should try to find an owner’s manual and see if that explains the attachment to the quick hitch.

Honestly you really don’t need the top link EXCEPT if you need to lift the mower off the ground.

Thanks guys. All food for thought. The extra plates and bushings for the LP floating top link kinda defeats the "quick" part of a QH that let's you stay in the seat while you engage the implement and then take off.

Many years ago I bought a QH and it sat in the shed until I scavenged part (most) of it for a recent project. I liken the QH to the Ruger .22 pistol takedown kit - an unnecessary solution.

Connecting implements to the 3PH is not difficult enough for me to justify spending the effort to make everything fit the QH. My RFM's, blade, rake, drag etc have different dimensions. It wasn't that bad to deal with before, and the current tractor makes it even easier with the telescoping lift arms.

With a QH looking less and less likely to be in my future - maybe I need to see if there telescoping lift arms available for my Kubota. Could be a useful upgrade

It's really only the bush hog that's trouble any more. The FDR1660 has pivoting connections at all 3 points and suspending the box blade a few inches in the air when stored has made it stupidly easy to connect.

Based on the research here at OTT and elsewhere, I'll keep on doing what I am doing now and maybe piecemeal sell off my older implements and replace them with newer QH compatible models.

There are implements that want to fight occasionally - concrete barrel counterweight is the first one that comes to mind. There's a pinch bar just inside the shed door to help make it comply.
