Is my bucket to big?

I picked up a new bucket for my BF300 loader. I did not realize how much bigger it was than the one I am replacing, I was so focused on finding something with the proper pin bracket dimensions that I did not realize it was 6 inches wider and 6 inches taller and I suspect its at least 150 pounds heavier. What is worse case scenario if I pin that bad boy on and start pushing dirt around?

I figured on the reduced loader capacity, but the rest of that list makes my think it might be a bad idea.

You don't mention what you plan to lift. If it's light stuff, it should be ok.

You will loose capacity if it is heavier. The pivot points are the same if it's using the same attachment points.

You will also need more rear ballast, like at least 150lbs more!

If BF300 means that the capacity is 300 kg (~660 lbs) like I believe, then the 150 lbs means a lift reduction of nearly 25%.

To me personally, that would be pretty significant loss.

But you could look at it like, it's same a carrying around a "fat kid" all the time.......

One of the many stories about the company I worked for that didn't have "tractor people" working there was when they bought a large light materials bucket for their Montana. Then they tried using it for everything. The tractor wasn't happy.

I dont see you breaking anything. You can't lift anymore weight than before but yoo will lose 150# of material capacity. Its a lose, lose "upgrade" except maybe for light stuff like snow.

It's mostly used for snow and moving firewood. And what's left of my dirt project is the back dragging and grading so I am feeling better about my bad decision.

That's pretty much how I see as well. OP will need to be 'judicious' in his use of the bucket.....where weight is concerned.

IF the bucket were being used primarily for lighter media (dry snow, wood chips, etc) then he might realize a gain in 'volume' over the original bucket.

BUT....the increased weight of the new bucket could offset any potential gains depending on the media.

Here is an oversized one I made out of my old bucket when I went to QA…

I am very careful with it….it is only used for property clean up of pine needles and tree debris during my annual spring clean up. I used fairly lite weight sheet steel when I built it…probably 80 or so pounds more…but I can feel the difference and try to not overload it. Been great for 10 plus years. I would never dig or fill it with anything other than fluffy crap…

I just have to ask you what is that trailer (in the background) used for? I thought it was loaded with rock at first glance but then noticed the door and rocks on the trailer tongue so decided I was seeing a beautifully stacked river rock wall behind the trailer. But the trailer looks very narrow up by the tongue jack and seems to not be flaring out towards the wheels.

Pontoon boat…

We live on a lake and use it to bring it out each winter. I got that type as it folds down and I put the boat on Dollie’s I made and wheel it into the garage to store it.

It is huge, but it is fantastic for grading and moving wood, I know there is no way it would do a full scoop of dirt, but a 1/3 to 1/2 scoop she does fine.
