I put off buying this tractor for several years. Didn’t want to write the check. Convinced myself that my L2800 with no cab or loader was enough.
I was being foolish. I’ve put more time on this machine in two weeks getting things done than I put on the L2800 in a year. The loader and grapple is worth a crew of laborers. And not bogging down bush hogging is a completely new experience

highly recommend the MX5400. For me, it may be the perfect machine.

Congratulations on your new MX. How are you liking the new style R4 tires?

I like them a lot. Good traction and they aren’t really bad on the turf. Get into something wet thought and they’ll leave a mark.

Very nice, congratulations! You will be smiling every time you climb into the cab. A cab is great for all seasons - hot, cold, dust, bug, pollen, etc:)

I debated for a year on cab/no cab. Can’t tell you how happy I am that I got it. No more undressing outside before I can come in the house.

No doubt brother. It is a BIG change.

I could no longer stand cutting weekly in our heat, plus I was being assaulted by large vicious horseflies. Easy decision.

Life is good these days.

Nice machine, friend of mine has the exact tractor with open cab, plenty of power.

As a fellow L2800 owner (with loader, couldn't live without it), I debate occasionally the need for a bigger machine with more power. My previous L4400 was probably the perfect blend of size and power for what I used to use it for, but as I have been mowing my trails and firebreaks out at our 65 acres of hilly terrain over the past two days I don't think I could get in and out of the places the L2800 can with a bigger tractor.

A cab sure would be nice for down in the creek bottom in 94 degrees with no breeze, but operating in tight woods I would eventually break something (windows). It sure was nice having a cab on the D4 I rented in March to clear trails and firebreaks though. I bet those R4s are a lot more stable in hilly rocky terrain than my R1s even set wide as possible and filled.

the L2800 is a great little tractor. I may keep it. I just needed one with a loader and capacity to move downed trees and hay. That wasn’t the L2800. I may keep it though. I’ve got a small section of pasture across a creek on the back of my property. Used to have horses on it that kept it cut down but there is an aquifer under it and heavy rains last year started opening up small sinkholes on it. Enough to break a leg. So now it is getting overgrown and this MX is a little too big to get through the creek crossing and back there. Plus that crossing is a bit tricky and I am a little nervous to try it anyway with a cab tractor and higher center of gravity.
But on the rest of the property the MX has been just the ticket. And with these 90-100 degree days I am loving the AC.

That’s a good looking machine and quite the set up…I might be slightly biased to an MX myself☺.

looking at your pic I wonder your hoses that route out past the loader frame than back up over it (just in front of the cab) if that is correct? I would worry about catching a limb or something if playing in the woods or something. I am not familiar with a cab or how those hoses should be routed…just asking politely.

I have an open station and mine route to the inside of the loader frame (but maybe mine are wrong?). Anyway I just hope you don’t snag something with the new machine. Looks great!

I noticed the same thing when I got it, but looking at the 3FV they installed, I don’t see how they could run them inside the loader arm. Just something I have to watch for for sure. 👍
