I have been using my new L3902 for the last 2-3 days to mow my lawn and having a great time. But everything went wrong this evening and I can’t work out what going on.

in the middle of mowing I started to lose hydraulic pressure. HST started ‘jumping’ could not raise FEL or rear. I turned it off and no again, looked all around it for leaks etc and could not see anything. Got the blower all over it just in case a radiator got clogged. After many attempts I barely got it running again and what appears to be just enough pressure to drive it back to my garage.

I am completely lost - any ideas of what to check tomorrow morning?

thanks
Ben

How "new"? Just delivered 3 days ago? If so did you check ALL the fluid levels, torque the wheel lug nuts, etc. even though the dealer said they did already? Is an hydraulic hose disconnected but not leaking? I'm not sure hydraulic pressure would effect how it starts and idles. Maybe water in the diesel, plugged fuel line/filter?

3 weeks old. It’s running ok but the ‘barely running’ relates to the hydraulic pressure causing HST, FEL and power steering issues.

And your hydraulic fluid level is....? Full, half, dry as grandma's @$%&?
It's 1:00 a.m. here so I'm signing off. TTFN

Stop operating the tractor and that includes running the engine.

About the only thing the HST, PS, 3pt, and loader systems have in common is the hydraulic oil supply. Check the transmission oil level. If its low why?

3 weeks old - Warranty / Dealer problem.

Stand your ground, don't let them tell you it's your fault - unless your not telling us something.

Don't let them charge you for a "Service Call" or transportation fee if they have to take it back to the dealership for repair. Not saying they will but there are some... If they do ask why it's not covered under warranty?

Good luck and keep us posted on what they find.

Ok calling the dealer in the morning - hydraulic level seems ok but still very limited pressure
What does “level seems ok” mean? Is the level in the correct range on the dipstick? How are you determining pressure?

I don't have a clue what the inside of the HST looks like, but from your description it sounds like the driver for the pump shaft lost a key in the coupling if that is what is inside.

He seems to have lost all hydraulic functions. But you got me thinking. One commonality I missed in my earlier post is the PS pump also supplies oil to the HST charge pump....

So the dealer has been great so far. We talked over the phone about the issues and could not come to a conclusion. They sent a tech out today who has been here a couple of hours and the conclusion so far is nothing obviously externally wrong. So they have changed the hydraulic filters and testing again - All is looking OK so far. Maybe debris in the system caused a clog.

Is it working now?

Yes and I am happy with everything the dealer has done so far. We have confirmed its nothing external ie leak, hose connected incorrectly etc. So the only explanation is an internal blockage, filters have been changed. I am going to use the tractor and if it happens again give them a call and we will decide how to proceed. I am good with this as they are unable to reproduce the issue after changing the filter etc

A clogged filter on a brand new tractor after only 3 days is not normal.

Could you or the dealer cut the filter open and see what was clogging it up?
