I custom saw whatever dimensions that my customers request. Here is the lumber on the job that I will finish tomorrow:

View attachment 149226
Tulip Poplar sawn one inch and various widths to 12".

View attachment 149227
Red Oak; 1" on the bottom and mostly 2X4's & 2X6's on top. 3532 board feet sawn so far.
When I grow up, I wanna make pretty lumber like @Magicman.

Getting ready to pull the pin on a mill. I have quite a few oak and pine logs to learn with and some will test any skills I think I might have. First practice piece is gonna be a big curved fork for slabs just to learn how to cut crooked useless stuff into marketable slabs.

Probably going to use the straighter stuff to build a bigger better chicken coop. The missus has decided to have chickens. LOTS of chickens, and she doesn’t mind having a project we can both work on. I came up with a modular design for the run panels and cover that uses a 4x8 grid pattern and is super easy to add onto (assuming there’s no trees in the way). I already built a 6x8 coop from scrap lumber that I recovered from a couple deck replacements. It’s like a bomb shelter for chickens. I figure I’ll reuse it again to make more chicken furniture and playground equipment for them. They love climbing, so might as well make it safe for them to do it.

I'm gentle. I haven't had any time with the bucket so this was good practice for me. I think using the snowplow helped get a little better. It was nothing but a sheet of ice. I actually tried to go much faster but tractor wasn't having it.
Crank that idle up more, it's a diesel, you should hear less whining on the hydraulics when grabbing a bucket full. But, then again sound on a video can be odd or distorted.

I was around 2k. The clips were recorded different times with different idle speeds though lol. I been experimenting with different RPMs.

My phone definitely picks up a lot of sound though, especially the hydrostat whine and some reasons quiets the engine. Probably just auto gain, the transmission is probably picked up as a louder audio source so quiets it down thusmaking the engine sound quiet.

Haven’t read all the replies yet, but that receiver hitch is gonna fill up with dirt if you put it in the blade like that. I thought about that same idea but talked myself out of it. I am working on a design that I can hang on the blade and lock in place, but easy to remove so I don’t have to constantly clean the dirt/mud out of the receiver. The box blade holds enough dirt (which it kindly deposits on my shop floor). Don’t need more cleaning. The quick hitch is the cat’s pajamas and I modified my towing adapter to fit the QH, so it’s a quick change out. If I think I’ll need the tow bar again, I just lay it on top of the box blade to keep it handy. I’m a little leary about putting any holes in the frame of the box blade but something that I could quickly pin on and just as easily stow would be the bees knees.
With my initial thought of butt welding the receiver to the blade, I took a 2” or so hole saw and cut a half moon out of the lower portion for dirt and rocks to fall out of.

I put a video together today haha. Took way longer than it should. Stupid Xfinity...gigabit internet just not upload so took way too long.

Anyways here you go.

As a fellow new guy I think you did great!

I also went really, really slow when I first got the tractor so I didn't wreck stuff. Eventually things started "feeling natural." (Started--I'm not there yet.)

As the video progressed so did your use of multiple FEL functions at the same time, you're getting smoother and more natural with experience, good job. (Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast.)

Yeah on the tractors, if you hear additional whine when operating the hydraulics under load, crank up the idle even if you need to get upto the min pto rpms, get more flow going. Always got to get a feel/hear for that sweet spot of the rpms and performance.

I wear earplugs in my cab skidsteer, lol with the radio playing, lol, but the hydraulic whine will make your ears ring after spending a day in it without any protection.

I want to buy better hearing protection, something more comfortable that I can use also when mowing and with the trimmer. Something with a radio wouldn't be a bad idea but then again..don't mind hearing the smooth sound of the diesel either, it's better than year a zero turn's mowing deck for 4 hours lol. It almost makes me fall asleep. I like over the ear stuff, I don't like things inside my ear that's why I have these Shokz wireless headphones, they're awesome but don't block any sound which is what I use when I go for my runs.

I've used the tractor without hearing protection a little bit, its not TERRIBLE but I wouldn't use it long. It's really weird though because others say the tractor is really loud and I can hear them talking over the tractor's engine but they can't hear me talk. It's almost as if the tractor is more quiet when in the operator station versus outside the tractor.

Yeah...I'm just not used to the hydraulic flow and the correlation with the engine speed. On my lawn mowers, I just always set it full speed because I want the blades spinning the fastest for a nice cut. But diesels are way different really. Like it doesn't always need to be at full speed. Like I use low idle when trying to line up for the ssqa stuff or when backing into the garage lol.

Having spent already like 12 hours just plowing alone I think has made me feel more comfortable with the functions, especially using multiple functions. One thing is for sure, the bucket is WAY lighter than the snow plow, I can feel the difference big time. But like I said, I have maybe 45 minutes to an hour or so of prior experience with the bucket before the snow started to fall. I did manage to use the bucket during a brief warm up during winter that caused my driveway to get extremely rutted and I felt like I did a good job then. Having the level rod helps hugely!

I use a set of 3M worktunes Bluetooth headphones. They are my second set of Bluetooth-style hearing protection. The first Amazon specials were ok, but these are much better. They block out the noise of the zero turn or tractor, but I can hear my music or take phone calls without having to cancel out the noise reduction by having the speakers on max.

Sweet I'll check them out. I noticed the Kubota dealership has Kubota branded hearing protection, just what I need more Kubota branded swag lol.

I like my ISOTunes Aware. Since I'm usually working with family at the farm, I like when the noise levels are less, they allow it to pass through, but when it hits 85db I believe is the level, they shutoff and act like normal ear plugs. Keeps me from taking them in and out so much throughout the day.

Made the final plumbing connections this afternoon. I had to add some 90's so that the connection doesn't interfere with the thumb. I should've just ordered 90 degree connectors. It's close, and I'll have to be careful. Like I said, not ideal but it will work.

The good news is that by simply turning the diverter valve on the dipper, I can use the thumb switch to control the auger. Forward and backward control like it was the thumb. Kubota does provide a very easy flow control (dial knob) on the top of the display unit. It's much easier to use than going thru the settings in the display.

Tried the auger out. It stalled out after hitting the frost. I didn't push it but seems to me that the relief is set pretty low on the auger (or is it the thumb circuit ?). I guess that's better than self destructing.
