To make the hard parts easier to take. To make the stuck fasteners come free with less stress...
Let's see your antidotes.

About the only time I listen to music is when I'm alone in the truck (rare anymore) and sometimes with headphones while surfing the 'puter late at night (mostly old R&R). I do enjoy listening, but not when I'm doing work. Then it's more of a distraction. When I worked on construction sites it was almost annoying because everyone had different music blasting.

When I was younger, it seemed like I needed to have music going all the time.

Don't listen to music when working on my tractor...because all I ever have to do is change oil and that takes only a few minutes. But when working the tractor in the field - I have my own compilation of music that I love, loaded onto a flash drive. Plug that in to the tractor's stereo and I'm good to go.

But last year I started listening to audiobooks. Great way to help pass the time when spending 10 hours a day in the tractor seat.

N.Y,
I listen to whatever is playing on the only country music station the radio can pick up in the area. Love having a cab with a decent sound system.

Coming from a "slightly different background" (motorcycles, fast cars, relatively expensive cheap women) I respectfully mention my taste in music (like most things) may vary from the norm--thanks for having me as a member anyway.

When actively using tractors, I have a pair of Skull Candy over the ear wireless headphones paired with an Apple iPod. There are several weeks of continuous un-repeated music stored on the iPod.
The wireless headphones eliminate most of the hearing damaging tractor noise, while you can still hear the machine if something bad mechanical happens. Or a big rock up underneath the rotary cutter!

My equipment building is metal skinned, and I haven't found a single radio that will function adequately inside the building when doing maintenance/repairs.

Several years ago, my GF requested a wireless speaker for playing music when working outside and detailing vehicles. As usual, I over compensated and got her this JBL Party Box speaker.
It is 240 watts of output audio power!

The JBL Party Box is wirelessly paired with the iPod or a cell phone for stored music.

I don't listen to AC/DC or Metal very often, but when I do, so do the neighbors!

Yeah, I bought a SoundBoks a few years ago for outdoor music. I think it will put out 126 decibels. Wireless, cordless. Runs on lithium batteries. Unit is about the size of a medium sized cooler. Batteries are about the size of motorcycle batteries.

It's too much for what we need now. But when we bought it it was the perfect dealio.

Respectfully; You'd be surprised, my cheese-head compadre. I am really into motorcycles and own and enjoy a very fast car. But your women comment I don't fit into.

But on a moto forum years ago a guy asked what to bring on a long motorcycle trip... I said: "A carton of smokes, a bottle of Jack and a Skank". But I digress as I love my wife, and that was way back many years ago.

I enjoy all music (except gangster Rap and most Metal), depending on the situation and mood.

Be well. Tractor on. Go Packers.

I have the work tunes Bluetooth headphones and a stream a radio station on my phone when doing long jobs like rotary cutting. To keep the phone charged, I installed a USB charger port on my tractor.

Before my ears gave up on me, I did listen to a wide range of music: Some country, a lot of 70's R&R, quite a bit of classical.

However, when I'm listening to music, that's ALL I'm doing, other than maybe once in a while when on a long road trip. Having background noise while working has never appealed to me, and the practice of playing music on a tractor or motorcycle completely mystifies me. On a bike, you NEED to be paying attention to your surroundings to avoid killing yourself. On a tractor, you NEED to be paying attention to your tractor and/or implement to avoid damaging things. Not to mention having to turn it up to ear-hemorrhaging levels to even hear it.

JMHO, YMMV...

N.Y,
For really loud things like mowing on the zero turn my hearing aids work great. I have big custom molds and when I switch off the microphones it's silent. Then I can stream direct at low volume levels and just hear music. On the tractor my aides hide background noise and pick up the music from the speakers.

For some people in some situations it helps avoid Road Hypnosis, which can also be a killer.

Great points, for sure.
On a bike, I don't listen to music but sometimes wear earplugs if it is a long ride. For the wind sound and engine drone.
When operating a tractor I wear noise cancelling earphones, sometimes with music in them... played low. The whine of the transmission is lowered and I can still hear my engine RPMs. And I can still answer my phone thru the headset.

My ears were shot years ago from working with equipment, gun fire on the job and in sport, and of course; Playing loud music as a young man.

Before I gave up riding last year, I wore earplugs under my helmet because the wind noise was bothersome. (I've never liked windshields on bikes...)

My point was that when I listen to music, I'm concentrating on the music rather than what's going on around me and that's double-plus ungood in some situations.

Oddly enough, i was thinking about this just recently.
I don't play music when working on stuff.

I need to hear myself talking to myself.

just ask my dogs....
hahaha....I thought I was the only one that did that!!!!!

Sometimes my wife will walk by and ask "Who the hell are you talking too?"

To which I reply "Me...and your interrupting....'

I can't stand background music though. For some reason I never have either. I like total silence (apart from the machine noises.)

I always have my "ears' in (foam plugs).......and I mean ALWAYS........ I must have 40 pair laying around the house/shop at any given time.........I think they help me "think better".

Edit: Driving is the only real exception, and then its strictly "old school Outlaw Country" like David Allan Coe.......non of this "pop star country" crap for me.

when on the tractor, its Beats Flex for me cranking Led Zeppelin (Robert Plant). In the garage its Bose soundtouch pumping out the same tunes. In the mini it's the crappy Kubota speakers with a cheap Boss audio head cranking out...(yep, Led Zeppelin)

For some reason, I just can't get enough Led Zeppelin for the last 10 months or so. I know, its weird.

one of my favorites....
