Deciding on a M7060HD

Hello everyone. I'm new here and need some advice.

Little background for my tractor uses and type. I own around a few hundred acres of land which is mainly a tree farm (pines) and manage it for wildlife as well. I will be primarily clearing trees, mowing, harrowing, tilling, etc. I first started out with a Ford 9N, moved up to a Ford 3000, and then finally my John Deere 5205 MWFD with a FEL. Well, my 5205's transmission decided to blow apart near the seat, so I'm without a tractor. I'm looking to purchase new since I will have insurance. My farm Bureau wouldn't cover my John Deere and I don't have the funds to just pull out and fix it right now (plus the engine smokes at start up, so I will have to eventually work on it)

I am trying to decide between a John Deere 5075E and a Kubota M7060HD. I took off from work yesterday and have came to a conclusion that I'm leaning more to the Kubota, but I still have a few questions.

The dealer I've talked to has many M7060HDs from peanut rentals and I could get one with 200 hours with the front end loader, 3rd function, and a JD adapter plate and the physical damage insurance for the term period for 2.40% APR for 84 months ($60,494.28); I can't afford to buy right out (which would've been $52,207.24), because Hurricane Helene did some damage on our timber and we aren't selling what's left of our timber until the market hopefully gets back up (but I really need a tractor right now). The tractor will be sold as new, so it will have the same warranty as a new tractor with 0 hours.

These peanut rental tractors are pretty much standard (8 speed, standard 4wd). I really like how the Kubota has less electronics exposed out in areas unlike the 5075E. The 5075E is also much more money. The Kubota seems to have a little more room in the tractor seat area as well as a better ground clearance. The main issue I have with the Kubota is the more exposed fuel tank under the left side.

Should I be fine with the 8 speed? I think I would but I've never owned a Kubota. Would it be worth spending this amount? Seems like new ones without the 3rd function, etc are nearly 50k, so I'm not sure if I need to look elsewhere?

So, before I pull the trigger. I would like some advice before I proceed. If you have any, I would appreciate it.

I’d recommend ask dealer if they have a demo unit you can try out and if not let you drive one around the lot and try the controls and pedals and see what feels best.

I’m pretty biased towards orange, but it might help to confirm what your gut is telling you, and you may find out one is much more preferential than you thought.

Personally I want to drive and try before dropping a dime. Good luck and happy shopping.

Short term rental / lease returns are an excellent way to get a great tractor for cheaper.
And the "new" bugs have been worked out.

I need to do that but I'm definitely not getting a Deere now.

I have an M6060HDC which has the F8/R8 transmission but I also had the creep range "cassette" installed so now it's an F12/R12 over three ranges. The creep range is really nice to have for certain tasks. As for whether or not an F12/R12 is better, then yes, of course, but is it needed? I would say that it's not needed but would be nice to have since it offers more operating flexibility. I like my M6060 enough that it's not worth it to me to trade up to an M7060 or M4.

Overall I think the M6060/M7060 are excellent tractors but it might be worth looking at Kioti too. I spent some time in one of these a few years ago around the time I bought the M6060. I liked it a lot but there's no dealer support within 2 hours of me so I passed and opted for what I know and past experience with the excellent dealer just 3 miles from my house.

I hear the GPM for hydraulics is more so that's what peaked my interest, but the cost is just too much. Is it possible to upgrade the hydraulic pump or is it internally within the F12 transmission?

Yes, the M7060 with the F12/R12, that could be an F18/R18 with the creep cassette, does offer 16.2 gpm vs. 11.0 gpm that comes with the F8/R8 in an M7070 or M6060. I have no idea if the pump can be upgraded, but also, I have no need for 16 gpm out front. Famous last words right? 😂 The auger I have is an HD25 (bought used from the same place I bought the M6060) and the gpm range is 5 - 12gpm so it's well matched to the M6060 or MX6000. The grapple couldn't care less about the difference, nor could the hydrualic angle snow blade.

Again, there's nice to have and there's need to have. Would I like an M5-111 .... heck yeah! But that would be nice rather than need. I've said this before, but had I ordered an M tractor it would have been the M7060 with the F12/R12 transmission, but the M6060 deal was just too good to pass up. I paid $52k out the door for the cabbed model which included two rear remotes (one is standard) and a QH15.

Out of interest, do you have an implement in mind that would benefit from 16.2 gpm vs. 11.0 gpm. Not trying to be funny but perhaps you have a specific need.

My 5205 Deere is an 8 speed. It did fine for what I used it for.

I just figure more GPMs is better for anything that COULD possibly happen in the future. I ran a limb saw on my Deere but I had a PTO hydraulic pump for it

If you look at the parts diagram on Messicks.com and compare the hydraulic pumps that come with the 4 speed and 6 speed transmissions, it looks like they're interchangeable. The 16.2 gpm pump is longer but all of the other parts appear to be the same. I have no idea if it'd be as simple as spending $1,784 on the bigger pump and swapping it out to get more flow. @North Idaho Wolfman, what do you think?
