Perhaps going low tech would be better, cheaper. goats would probably love to keep your banks clear, and will be happy to fertilize it for you for nothing.

Still on this topic. Mowed my steep dam this year with my B3200 and a Woods mower...scary as hell, I do not plan on doing that again.

I purchased a UTV, a pull behind would be nice and would be safe on the UTV. Swisher doesn't make a pressurized oiling system and I measured the incline and I would burn their splash oiling mowers up right away.

Kunz mowers are nice and have a pressurized oiling system but they are big bucks. More than I can justify.

Any other suggestions, or am I forced to go get more string for my trimmer?

Do you have the tire loaded? It makes a big difference on stability.

Tires aren't loaded. The dealer wasn't thrilled with the idea of doing anything with the tires besides air....Not sure what kind of difference it would make with this little B3200.

I'm also doing a lot of side mowing in other locations and I think that might actually make it worse? Maybe I'm thinking of it wrong.

But the part that I am having issues with is a U-shaped dam, like mowing the inside of a bowl, so I'm basically 3 wheeling it all the time...not fun. And about a 28-30* incline

I don't know if loading the tires will fix your problem but it makes a big difference. It put the weight down low and not only helps with stability but with traction as well. It made night and day difference on my L3000. Might be worth a try.

Dumb question but couldn't you use a sickle bar to drop over the band?

I could use a sickle bar. A safety concern is the weight and it sliding the back of the tractor down the hill when mowing sideways along the steep banks.

It wouldn't address mowing my dam.

Not to mention they are $5,000 for a 7 foot bar :(

I've started to aim on a pull behind mower (self powered) and use my UTV. I've only found one brand (Kunz) that makes one with a pressurized oiling system, and that would be big bucks too. $3-4k

cold1313,

We have a DR pull behind mower that works well with an ATV. For some spots, it is better than a 3 point mower. It is easy to adjust height and goes in closer than a field 3 point. It will also work nicely on a lawn as our tractor has AG tires on it. The ATV won't chop up the lawn as much as a tractor will.

The 3 point is used mainly in the outlaying fields here and both are needed.

I also agree with you on the sickle mower. They are a bit unwieldy and can be very dangerous.

I did look at the DR also. I'm not sure that the 2-wheel design would work for all of my applications. On a slope, I think it would walk out more often than a 4 wheel model.

cold1313,

Did you look at the specs? It offsets! You can mow with it offset away from the ATV.

If that doesn't work for you. You may consider to get a walk behind setup that has powered wheels.

Yes, I know that it offsets, all of the other pull behind units do the same. I was referring to the fact that the 2 wheel design probably wont track true on my terrain. Plus DR has them marked up pretty high.

Search around in here, someone posted their homemade mower idea for mowing around their pond. I believe it was a metal frame that sticks off to the side of the tractor, pretty sure they just used an old push mower connected to the frame they built.

I used to use one of those pull behind mowers with my ATV, the one I had didn't offset all that much. I want to say that it went a foot or so wider than the ATV.

I've seen the DIY build with the push mower on a frame. That wont work for my setup because of the very steep banks going to the pond. Hard to explain without pictures. That, and my pond is 2 acres in size.

Right now my focus is on mowing the dam that is on one end of the pond. Finding a mower that can operate at those steep inclines. Your typical Swisher can't handle those inclines, they use a splash lubrication system.
