I need a thermostat in the Silverado, so I started to call around, it has been years since I had to buy one, I mean how much could they cost now? Auto zone, Advance auto, and a couple local suppliers, all were with in a couple pennies of each other, 68 bucks +tax, o_O, and all had them in stock.
So for shyts and giggles I called the local dealer, after giving them all the truck info, my left nut, and first born they could give me the price, 117.00+tax but they don't have any in stock but they could get one in next week.
I know a silly rant, but dayum !

Try Amazon skeets, without knowing the year and more details it's hard to give you the price but from what I've seen they don't seem outrageous.

Besides Amazon, NAPA regularly discounts online, and I've found good deals on Ebay as well. Fwiw, several dealers for different manufacturers sell on Ebay.

I understand why dealers don't stock. I'll buy from brick and mortar if they keep it in stock. Otherwise, might as well ship to my house.

I played this game already - if LS based they have the Therm unit integral with the housing...
forget both of those.

IMO NAPA is the answer if you need it right away - Rock auto if you can wait

I did a google search because I was not sure if the thermostat you were referring to is what I had in my mind.

If it will make you feel better, this gem turned up. Could this possibly be true?

How much does it cost to replace a thermostat in a Chevy Silverado?

The average cost for a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Thermostat Replacement is between $687 and $713. Labor costs are estimated between $99 and $125 while parts are typically priced around $588. This range does not include taxes and fees, and does not factor in your unique location. Related repairs may also be needed.

I’d go with the cheaper Chinese knockoff AI—it would only be a tenth of the price 🤫

sure it 'could' be true....
The 'ace' mechanic busts a couple bolts, rips a wiring harness, knicks a hose, forgets to close the drain, etc... you know all 'little' stuff BUT vehicle owner is on the hook for all that DAMAGE...
Here in Ontario, if the written estimate is $200, YOUR bill cannot go over $220 ( 10% ).

Look at housing w/ water outlet & thermostat
25-39 @ rockauto specifically for that application

FWIW Believe it's same part for all of them - My 6.0 gen GM was $25
easy to replace!

me thinks you have a right to WHINE.

Last month I had my BIL add for me on his regular Summit order an Edelbrock F150 HD thermostat and with shipping, exchange, and delivery to my door it came to < $15 for a F150.

dealer markup is crazy

Just checked the cost for the thermostat for my 2016 Chevy V8 at my local dealer. $11.46. Special Order part though... $9.59 for a genuine GM one from RockAuto.

If you're talking about a 14+ its because it comes as the housing.

And be careful of the el cheapos if you're doing it for the ole p0128.

Excellent point. Most newer engines are LT-based small blocks. My 2016 is an LS-based small block.

It is crazy that the Dorman thermostat and housing is listed for $75 at the local Oreilly's, but is $26 on Rock Auto.
