ZD28 starter solenoid

Greetings. I did try to search but don't seem to be able to find my exact issue. Starting was becoming an intermittent issue. So thought the solenoid was getting tired. So today I switched it out with a new one. When I went to connect the battery the starter began to spin. I verified all wires were correct. Then thought ok, perhaps it was a bad one. Re-installed the old one and it did the exact same thing. I am no wiring genius, but this has me totally stumped. Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions???

step 1 - go to www.kubotabooks.com and download the ZD21-28.pdf in the 'mower' section.

step 2- open it ,goto page 205, says ZD28 upper left... print 1,2,3 copies......

step 3 - remove the B/W ( black / white stripe ) wire from the starter, connect battery, does is spin or not ?
If it spins starter unit is internally defective. If it doesn't spin, check the voltage on the b/w wire .Should be zero but in your case , I bet it has +12 volts.

Don't think so. In fact even tried reversing them and still the same result.

thanks, I will try that. Don't really understand what happened. It did not do it before, but just after I installed the new one and even when I re-installed the old one.

I know so, there is no reason that hooking up the wires to the starter should make the starter spin, unless it's being hooked up wrong!

Post pictures of what your hooking up.
I'll point out what's wrong or I'll be happy to eat my words if I'm wrong.


NO tractor wires go to red lug, all wires except spaded wire go to green lug, one spade wire goes to small spade (blue).
