Hi i have just picked up a Kubota F2400 front mower with a D1105 3 cylinder diesel i was told the head gasket was gone and possibly the head cracked. I am sure the previous owner dropped all the water and oil and then left it as when i got it it had no water or oil in it at all.

Today we pulled the head off and found the gasket had blown out and that one of the cylinders had water in it from when i filled the radiator up. We cleaned it out and to me it doesn't appear that bad but i am no expert.

There is a little scoring in the piston liner and the piston has some pitting in the top of it but not that bad. The piston is not ceased as it was turning over and trying to start but never would have due to the water in the back cylinder.

I have attached some photos of the bore and piston and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to if a product like JB weld would work fixing the top of the piston and the small cracks in the head as i don't have much money and would like to get this thing going on a budget if possible.

I will add photos of the cracks in the head tomorrow morning as my mate took it to see if his dad can fix it at work.

Thank you in advance for your advice and help.

I'm a JB Weld believer, but not for those issues. You'll get some comments when you post pictures of the head. In the meantime, since you have it convenient, check the piston to deck height at TDC. I'd be a little concerned that water in the cylinder might have bent a rod.

In your efforts, do not use ether starting fluid at all or you'll have more problem$.

Doesn't matter how broke you are, you either fix it or waste money trying to get it to run.
At the very minimum it needs a set of pistons and rings and hone the cylinders.
all the cylinders look bad.
The back cylinder might require being bored or even sleeved as it looks REALLY BAD.

You can't fix the heads on these engines, not with JB weld or even traditional welding techniques.
Get good used head or new head.

Full rebuild kits aren't that much i seen them for 900 or so and the heads are about 700.00 so i guess that's not to bad for a full rebuild. how hard are they to do if you are fairly mechanically minded however i have never pulled and engine down or rebuilt one before so this will be my first time. I do have a mate whose brother is a diesel mechanic so he may help me but i am not sure. thanks for your advice really appreciated.

Rebuilding these engines is an easy task for someone with a good mechanical knowledge.
The WSM walks you through all of it.
There is no real special tools required.

And yes that head is long gone!
