Exploring the best tire options for the cabbed LX2610. In the winter, it will mainly be used for plowing snow and moving or unloading materials. During the summer, its tasks will include moving and unloading materials as well as general landscaping on gravel and grass. The tractor is equipped with a loader, forks, a rototiller, and a snow pusher, with the possibility of adding a mower in the future.

You will get many opinions.

Chains will be one. I myself use them and couldn’t function without.

Different tires have different benefits. Depends on tasks.

R1 (Ag) - Don’t know availability for an LX.

R3 (turf) tires are easy on lawns and good in snow. They don’t have the sidewalk weight capacity of other types when looking at loader work.

R4 (industrial) are common but many say suck in snow or mud. Have good sidewall weight rating for loader work.

R14 (newer version of R4?) are relatively new. I think folks with them generally really like them, but I don’t think they have the sidewall rating the R4 tires have. If I were to buy a tractor tomorrow I would definitely look at R14.

Yeah, it currently has the R14s on it. My father’s BX23S has the R4s, which he loves. When he drove this one, he mentioned it felt more “bouncy” and preferred his, though I’m sure the size difference plays a role in how it feels to him. I’m leaning towards the R14s as well.

Certainly a LX with Cab should feel more bouncy than a BX. The tires are a lot larger diameter/wider and the center of gravity is much higher with a LX with cab.

I went with R4s on my L2501HST instead of R14s to have a bit stronger sidewall and tires. Otherwise, R14s would probably have been fine. Some say they are better on snow although I use chains for snow. My R4s are not good on snow. Some have groved R4s to make them better.

I don't know if the LX has the same offset for R1, R4, and R14s. For Ls, you can put a wider offset on with the R1s, so that may be a consideration for stability for you if LXs can have the wider offset.

In order of yard damage, R1s will do the most, R4 the middle amount, and R14s the least amount all else being equal.

I have had 2 Lx’s. One with R4, this one with r14. For summer performance I found them about the same on hard pack, black dirt rototilling, brush hogging in back 40. But where the R14 really shine over the R4 is winter, head and shoulders above the R4s in my opinion. I run a little higher psi in the front tires for loader work.
