Cold weather OPEN station snow plowing/blowing.

Not sure if this counts for this thread but I think my ATV identifies an open station.

It moves snow pretty fast but you have to keep up with it before it gets too deep. If we have a decent storm I will set alarm and during night or early morning and get up and clear everything off really quick. Much easier to do a couple times when not as deep than all at once after the snow stops falling.

As far as temps, teens with wind is pretty normal for us. +/- 0 degrees F not uncommon. Carharts, goggles, and mad bomber hat for insulation.

A cabbed tractor would be awesome, but I haven’t arrived yet .

A buddy of mine bought a snow blower for his JD several years ago, and I send him a Xmas card thanking for him buying it,, cause it hasnt snowed to worry about since he did

I used to use a UTV to plow snow. Worked good. But the pile along the sides freezes and cannot be moved until spring when it thaws. Moved up to a walk behind snow blower. Blew it 45 feet so no piles along the side. 2 hours to do my driveway and another 2 hours to do the neighbors I take care of. My old arse got tired of that after 3 seasons of blowing snow. 2 back surgeries and 3 knee surgeries was telling me it’s time for a change. Went to the Kubota dealer and pointed out what I wanted that was inside on the show room floor. Been researching tractors for a few years so knew what I wanted. Wife talked me out of getting one about 6 years prior. Didn’t give her a chance to say anything but pointed out that unless she goes out and take over snow blowing duties, I was getting one. Still can’t get her on it. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing.

Nice job. Something to consider but since my ROPS are at an angle to clear my garage, won’t be able to do anything like this. Hoping to get a shed up in the near future so I can consider a cab of some sorts.

One of the coolest times I remember on a open station tractor was when I was a kid pushing snow in my home town banks parking lot on a early Saturday morning with a 1946 JD model B tractor with a three point blade and the banks thermometer was reading -34 didn't have much wind that morning. Over the years I have spent a lot of time pushing snow and feeding cattle on a open station tractor at -20 to -30 not any fun. That's why now days the Mx6000 spends the winter in the shed. I do my snow removal with the skid loader in the nice heated cab.

I never cleared snow below 10 deg F. It's just not that important to me. Driving in reverse with a 3pt blower is challenging enough for someone with a cervical fusion. I use insulated bib overalls, sweatshirt and heavy hooded coat with a balaclava (orange). Although mittens keep my hands warmer than gloves, I switched to gloves with electric hand warmers .

Have looked at heated gloves last year but decided not to spend the money on them. Dam expensive. Bought some other thermal gloves but fingers still get cold enough that I have to stop plowing and ball my hands inside my gloves to warm them up. May get a set this year. If I didn’t take care of our elderly neighbors, I wouldn’t go out under 10 degrees either since I have 4 wheel drive truck and wife has all wheel drive SUV.

I have moved snow for 39 years and the heated cab has been here for 3 of those. I am sure I have blown snow in blizzard conditions and -20 to -30 many times. Pac boots, layers, Carhart, snowmobile helmet, extra gloves inside my Carharts. There is nothing I miss about all of that as I am continually turning the heat down while sipping my coffee and listening to classic rock thru my Isotunes

I just decided any wind/snow protection was better than my open station but the cost of a real cab was a stopper. Then I got an idea. My BX isnt much bigger than some garden tractors and Husqvarna makes a soft cab! It cost $350 and took an afternoon to fit but can be removed in 10 minutes for summer and improves my winter snow blowing by a bunch. Now if I had heat and a windshield wiper.........

The swirls! My driveway opens suddenly to our parking area facing NW when driving in, and I've gotten pretty good at re-aiming the chute just before coming around that corner. The dusty blowing snow does a 180 and hits from the opposite direction just before that point. It still catches me by surprise now and then, WUFF a blast of snow and my glasses are useless.
