the whole point of this emmission stuff is because if the gov doesnt have the votes to outright ban the ownership of internal combustion motors they will make it it as expensive and miserable as possible to get you to give them up.
Bingo.

I guess all the world governments are really, really, really, long thinkers! :sneaky::ROFLMAO:
Because emissions systems on combustion engines have been in the works since the late 60's. ;)

I'm not a fan of emission systems but I think we can get a lot smarter, and come up with a better way of powering everything.

Actually you need to do a little look up, they will actually haul more!

Kubota , Toyota and Volvo are both working on almost released versions of it too.
JCB is heavily invested in Hydrogen ICE's. They working engines available now for installation. The issue is the infrastructure to support it. Currently the only way to effectively power the engines is to generate your own Hydrogen. That and Hydrogen ICE's are not emissions free. They still require a SCR to reduce NOx emissions.

This Car and Driver article suggests only 17,000 cars and all in California. The article implies they are a more complicated EV. They've been available since 2015.

It's probably reasonable to think they won't be used very much or at all in heavy duty pickups for quite a while. It also suggests they have range issues like EVs which would only be worse in heavy duty pickups towing. EVs have a lot less range towing as well.

Hydrogen fuel cell is a very different technology than Hydrogen ICE. Although truly emissions free it has it hurdles.

I expect the issue with hydrogen will be it is difficult to store, transport and handle - issues that diesel does not have.
Yes infrastructure is a major hurdle but just as with petroleum based ICE's it can be built up and overcome, but at what cost? The other major drawback I see is that is a net loss as far as energy delivery. It currently takes, and always will, more energy to produce Hydrogen than it provides. That is unless they find mass quantities of free Hydrogen trapped in the earths crust, of which people have speculated there could be, but no one has discovered any.
