I have a ZG227. I had a stroke and drive with one hand when my left hand gets fatigued.

I have a service manual, but just wanted to ask here first. I don't remember how to adjust the control arms inward so I can manage both a little easier.

Thank you for the adjustment I need to make. 🤗🙏

Crazy thought - could you make a cradle that your left hand could sit in - the wrist would do the push and pull. Attach this cradle to the left arm? Something with a vecro strap that would allow the pulling back a bit?

Sorry if I am way off base.

That's a great idea 💡.

I used to use a Velcro strap, but with therapy and on my own at home, I can push and pull good. I can steer a truck good, but not like a 90+ degree turn.

A friend offered to buy and install this for me...

Right now, I go like an hour or more with nothing. But I want to pull the tips out the control arms closer. They are about five inches apart. I've got a repair/ shop binder. I just got to look up which bolts to loosen and adjust the arms and tighten. I thought someone might know offhand.

Thank you for sharing your time and help.

Sorry to hear about the stroke, hope you recover fully and quickly.

My zg227 doesn't have an adjustment to move the bars inward or outward. In fact the service manual suggests bending them against the stop if they're too close / don't clear each other.

Maybe considering switching to a lawn tractor for the short term? I think a ZTR could be really dangerous to run with a bum wing. I've almost put mine into the pond more than once even with two good arms...

Sorry to say there is no real adjustment to move them closer, you would have to bend the arms.

That’s a great idea and invention! Looks like you might get fatigued using your good hand though…that said, on my Z422, the effort to use the bars the proper way, with 2hands is so effortless, I can’t imagine getting fatigued by using them that way….not withstanding a medical condition, of course.

Mmanders6, North Idaho Wolfman and MowBiz...

I didn't get a heads up there were replies 😒
Thank all of you, very much. I got them where it's perfect for me.

I can push and pull okay. But a 3-4 hour stint and my left fingers get weak and I lose my grip. I believe I start out with 25 pounds of pressure gripping. A normal adult male is in the range of 100, so..... Easy for you is tougher for me.

Thank you very much for the time and help

Wishing you a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 🦃 🦃

I always thought about using a pair of cables (one to each HST) and a block, similar to like a M series loader valve, with a joystick, to run a ZT mower. Don't think it'd be that hard to figure it out, just a matter of where to put it and all that.
